I could really use some help beta-testing here. My primary goal is to develop a free piece of software for those who would rather use a MS-DOS environment. Also, I'd like to keep it open-source so anyone can come along and modify to their heart's content. written in BASIC, it should be pretty straightforward for most. I mean, if you can stand a chance of programming, you can probably handle BASIC.
This can be strictly advantageous, particularly with respect to low CPU requirements, ie. you can use a cheap-a$$ laptop to beat around in the car. It's been working pretty good for me in my MAF car, but I would really like to get it working for the 90-92 guys too.
Craig,
I am having problems with my ECM, I try to pull the codes out by flashing the SES light but I cant even get a code 12. I think my ECM is fried, but my engine is running fine. Also how do you make the cable to connect the ALDL to the computer. Thanks.
Are you using stock chip code? Reason I ask is that if I remember correctly, I can flash codes with a stock '87 chip, but (and I may be mistaken on this...I'll have to check) the ARAP code would not flash. If this is not the case, I'll let you know.
If you put a short-jumper (paperclip) across A-B, then start the car, what does it do? After it goes into closed loop (warms up), it ought to give you SES light blinking proportionally to the O2 signal. What about a 10K-ohm resistor across A-B and then start it up? The idle ought to hold high at around 1000rpm when you do this.
You have another chip you can try? If you suspect the ECM, I've been able to get the 'Autozone' guys to let me take the ECM out into the parking lot & hook it up real quick before buying it to make sure it was going to fix the problem. In my case at the time (non-flash-related), it did.
Craig,
Upon opening the ecm up I discovered that it has a stage 2 jet chip installed. The chip used to flash codes but it recently stoped. I tried the short jumper and it did nothing.

How about when you turn the ignition from off to on? You should see the check engine light come on, followed by a quick blink off, then stay on until you crank it up, when it goes off. Maybe the bulb's burned out...LOL!
You've got a MAF car, right? Try disconnecting the MAF & see what it does, should go into LIMPHOME, and throw a code & show the light on while running. Won't hurt nuthin, worth a shot, never know.
I double checked, and lo, the ARAP chip does blink off 1-2 code when AB is shorted. When you put the 10k across it, correct me if I'm wrong, but the fans are supposed to come on even when cold? I forget, mine are wired on all the time now.
Maybe the bulb was removed?? Ive thought about doing that at times I was going to ask Craig can you define limp home mode??? I know that sounds stupid but in SD my car isnt running very good as I still havnt decided between yours and diacoms software yet so I dont know much about whats going on... Just know its running rich with the cam BTW Did you get my email?
