ECM--- ADAPTER (w new chip) ---- MEMCAL
Done.
Put the adapter into the ECM, put the memcal on the adapter.
The adapter bypasses the section of the memcal where the original chip is at.
The New chip is routed in place of the original one in the adapter while leaving the rest of the circuitry connected through the adapter to the memcal.

There is a socket on the memory adapter for the Prom. There is a place on the memory adapter to plug in the memcal. The whole affair plugs into the memcal slot in the ECM.

Pretty simple?
