746 ECM

I have a 1228746 ECM ,Wiring harness, 5.7L engine taken from a 89 Caprice Police car. The car did not have air bags, vats,or Vss. My friend has a 91 Camero RS that had a 5.0L TBI with automatic and was running the same 1228746 ECM. We put the caprice 350 in the car and it runs fine with the 5.0L code. When I replace the chip with the AXWD code(Caprice) that used the same ECM the Camaro's CHECK engine light and air bag lite would flash like crazy. The car would run very sporadic and irregular.

Thus my question why does the same 1228746 ECM like the AXWD code with the 89 Caprice setup and not in the 91 Camaro.
Both cars are V8 TBI engines, 700r4 and have the same ECM. I know I am missing something. Any ideas.
thanks

Go to the DIY-EFI bin library and get the ANLU bin. It's out of an 89 Cop car. Run that chip. YOu may just have a screwy chip. I've never heard of the Airbag being associated with the ECM. Anyone else heard of this?

I'm just going to take a stab at this, not sure if I'm 100% correct but the ecm doesn't care about the air bag. That system is completely different than the ecm. That's why the 89 TBI ecm 8746 doesn't have an air bag yet you can swap around any 8746 ecm with any year eprom. The air bag system should be hookedup to your aldl port. Just hook up a scanner like Diacom or something that has the ability to check the system.

The chip was fine running in the caprice, but it is possible it has something wrong with it. The caramo is in rough shape. I did not put the engine in and I am sure wires have been sliced and diced. I thought the chips could be changed among the same ecm. I will try the ANLU code in the car. The Diacom software does not show much fro the 746 compared to a TPI scan.

thanks for your thoughts

Yeah, the 8746 is a old ecm and not really top of the line. The only advantage is that it can run 16 TPI injectors with it's 2 low impedance batch fire peak and hold drivers. hehe ideas ideas
The 8746 and 7747 ecms run better with the winaldl freeware than with diacom. Diacom is only better at graphing data, winaldl still isn't that far along but in many ways it's far ahead of diacom.
Good luck
