SES after burning - code 55 ?

Hey guys,

I have been using the moates adapter and am having trouble with getting any of my chips to burn properly. I have been successful in the past, but now I keep getting this error. I have tried on all the cars I have (89 vette, 90 vette, 89 Formula) and the car is running much better (as I improve the tune) but the SES light is always popping a code 55, which is ultimately bad eprom. I get this error whether I use my pocket programmer or pocket romulator, even if I try different chips and offsets (128 or 256) and I have several rows of good chips too. Anyone ever have this trouble? I have tried 2 laptops and 3 cars, and I can't believe both the romulator and programmer would both have the same error.

Anyone

Bob

Do you get a blinking SES, or is it solid? Solid means that the vector tables are either not at the end of the addressable memory (IOW, wrong offset in use), or the chip and/or adaptor is faulty. Blinking means that you have everything in the right place, but the checksum is coming up wrong or not properly updated, or there is a fault with reading the chip. If its intermittent, then its an issue with the computer not being able to read the chip and its locking up.

In Other Words

Do you get one blink when you first turn the key? If not, then its likely the computer is just sitting there, doing nothing and the car is in limp-home mode. This would be do to the wrong offet or the computers inability to read the prom. If you do get a blink, then its possible that the computer is illuminating the SES due to the previously set code. Also make sure that you wait at least 10 seconds after shutdown to pull the prom. I dont know if the computer can set the code when it doesnt have the prom inserted but the computer continues to run on for a bit after the ignition is cut to reset for the next startup.
