Re: few questions about chip on new engine

Start reading.....
How the maf tables and LV8 work specifically.
How to tweak the o2 constants- that takes a while to find via searching.
How to turn off the smog equip you removed.
You'll need the best xdf you can find for your bin.
You may want to swap to 6E and use the xdf found in this thread.
http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/diy-prom/428112-quick-general-question.html
Or the one included with TP is good also.
If going 6E with that cam, you may want to run the ARAP spark and fuel tables transfered into an AT bin like aujn or aujm.

thanks for the reply,
i downloaded tunerpro rt and flash and burn as sugested are the aujm files the one on moats website?? i guess i need to wait until eveything shows up to look into the bins.. i downloaded the 6E from tunerpro site, not to sure what it does but i guess while im burning the chip i will have to add that to it.
im sure i will be asking many questions as time goes on.

Re: few questions about chip on new engine

From your recent posts........
You'll want to start up top in the stickies.
Read the Prom intro by Traxion first.
While some of it is old info, it still has good info and is written for the beginner.
Then read the other stickies. A lot of the tuning stickies are for ecms other than yours. Read them anyway. You'll pick up info from all of them.
Then go back and read them again. And again.
You'll pick new things up each time.
And as always "start slow & take notes"

With your setup, you'll want to find a stock vehicle to play with to get all of your hardware settings figured out and get your feet wet changing simple things.

Once your comfortable, go through the bin you pick out for your car and start changing all the thing you'll need to for your combo.
Idle speed, egr, air etc. You can do searches on how to turn these off if they are missing from the stickies. If you find a good thread that's missing from the stickies. Post a link in the suggestion stickie so others benefit from your time also.

This makes a great winter project

Re: few questions about chip on new engine

yea, even with only a little experience youll be able to give advice to people starting out.

One of the most basic things that needs to be understood is what actually is the .bin and .xdf?

The .bin is that your actually changing and what is actually burned to the prom and what actually controls the ecm.

The .xdf is just the bin definition, aka the mask. it isnt on the prom, but it is used by TunerPro to translate the bin in a way. the way i think of it is, it converts from a format that the ECM knows, into a format the I know (tables, scalars,...).

if the bin and xdf dont match then its like translating the wrong language and everything is messed up.

maybe that helps or maybe you already understood that
