VSS help

I recently swaped a 4L60E in instead of my 700r4. I have a 91 and am running the 730 ecm. With the "tone ring" type vss I am reading way to fast. I started playing around with the speedo pulse divisor in the chip but I am a little confused. If I increase the divisor to a point, say 96 then go to 120 the speedo jumps right back up. Being that this is a divisor I would of thought that the larger the number the smaller it would make the pulse count not increase at a larger divisor. Also using the 4000 pulses per mile my ecm is reporting 255 mph. Should I just increase this value? Can someone please help!

FWIW- I am running 3.73 gears and 25" dia. tires.

Re: VSS help

with the hi-res reluctor, the ECM is seeing a lot more than 4000 pulses per mile.
the hi-res reluctor produces 40 pulses per revolution of the drive shaft. with your gear, your around 150~160 pulses per revolution of the tires.
i have played with speedo pulse divisor, but i never had any luck with it. i used the VSS setting.

with a 2.42 gear & using Super_8dm xdf, i had my VSS set to 76800 pulses per mile.
i think you may have the same problem i had, it seems the 7730 ECM has problems with the hi-res speed sensor the pickups use at higher speeds. at around 60 MPH or so the speed reading in my ECM starts to drop.
if i remember right, around 70 actual MPH, my ECM shows around 50 MPH.
the faster i went above 60 MPH, the slower the ECM shows.
my work around to it is inputting the VSS signal to a DRAC & using one of the outputs of the DRAC to supply the signal to my speedometer, ECM, & cruise control.
the DRAC would need to be calibrated to your car, that means changing the jumper wires inside of it.

your running a 4L60E, what ECM are you controlling it with? you should be able to use the trans ECM to output a good signal to your speedo & engine ECM.

Re: VSS help

Thanks for your help!

I ordered the TCI controller, but I haven't recieved it yet. I just installed the trans and was running it on jack stands. Hopefully the trans controller will take care of my issues, if not I will try the DRAC. Thanks again!
