Just hooked up my laptop with The awesome moates freeware (ecm852) to do some winter tuning.. Will not connect for some reason? Hand scanner works but moates ware and laptop not? any way to test the cable or com port maybe? I have been using this setup for many years now, just recently it will not connect? I have not used for a few months though and cable has been in basement.. Do they go bad easily? Can I test it somehow? I have installed a painless wiring harness since last time using, but would not think thats it being Auto-X scanner works just fine.. Maybe I am wrong... Any ideas? Oh, 7730 ecm. Thanks, TK

when you say moates freeware, are you talking about ECM852?
if so, i would reccomend getting TunerPro instead.

this is all instructions for tunerpro, not surehow it works with the other programs

if you get tunerpro rt (which is a sweet program) you'll need to download the .ads file that's the definition file you need to scan. you can get it off moates site, im using the file firstthirdgen something something but thats for the speed density with 8d, i think you might need a different file? but maybe not.
to upload the .ads file you either just hit F4 or tools->datalogging->setup and you can upload it there

to change the com port you go tools->preferences->then click on the last tab for aldl datalogging and its right there

Maybe I was unclear - I have used moates scanware - Yes (ECM852)
for years now and love it... Just recently it stopped working.. I am trying to figure out why...
I will try TunerPro, but doubt that will connect either. But when I do regain connection I will try it anyway - but have used ecm852 for long time and it suits my needs perfect but maybe I will like TP better.
