89 C4 memcal

I brought an 89 memcal from a C4 guy.
I opened it up, and found 1 pin cut from the little IC chip, and a small component added between 2 pins of the small IC chip.
The PROM looks to be untouched.
Is this factory, or did he mod this memcal for some reason ??

I was going to use this memcal to start expermenting with my tune....

Re: 89 C4 memcal

That is interesting. I can't answer the question, however, I do recall a couple of years ago someone else posting the same question. He even posted pictures of the change. He was from either England, Sweden or Norway (IIRC!!).

Had from what I could tell a resistor added to the MEMCAL. One the small chips (CALPAKs) same as yours. For the most part these chips are only used during limp mode. Although, one pin is used to set the injector firing rate (4, 6, 8 cyl).

Re: 89 C4 memcal

I was searching here, and found the guy who opened up his 89 LB9 memcal.
Same thing with the resistor packs. 1 pin cut with a added on component.
This guy took detailed pics. It's an 89 ANYX prom, which is specific to the 89. This corvette memcal I brought appears to be the same, except obviously a different broadcast code.

I brought his post to the top.
----------
He is the link, check out his pictures.
The 89 corvette memcal is the same.
