moates 852 wont connect
I made my cable and downloaded version 8.52 to th laptop. Hooked it up and found out it was in (offline mode) under the defaults. I changed that to (dianosticECM mode) and also changed the ECM typ to '730 (thats what I have).
Now when I go back to option 4 to (summary of criticle vaues) it says the program is set up for a MAX-232 circut. I used the 2 transistor diagram (sanjaya)w/ the 12 volts running directly to the battery. It says to keep pressing 1 untill program beeps,,,,,,,....
all that happens is it says , Sending request:f4-57-1-0-b4 recievingecho/response:
then nothing
I checked voltage across pins A&E on the aldl and got 2.95v . Then I checked it at pin 2 on the DB9. (Iwasnt sure where to check it from so I got 12 volts to chassis ground and 170 mv at pin A on the aldl.
Ive checked the com ports and all that stuff matched the settings I found listed here somewere.
I also tried putting the 10 k resistor between A&B, no difference.
Should I be in offline mode or the diagnostic mode? my guess would be diagnostic.
any insight?

Re: moates 852 wont connect
ive iven up for today (the exhaust in the garage is starting to get to me.).
This sucks, cause I dont know if its something I did wrong w/ the cable, software, or puter settings.
Two things that I did on the cable that I was unsure of, were the direction of the resistors and the direction of the diode. I did unsolder the diode and flip it around but there was no difference.
Are the resistors direction specific?
So, even though the prompt says its for a MAX-232 circut, should this work w/ my cable?
After you get this prompt and it tells you to keep pressing 1, how long does it take to connect after it says its looking for an echo?
Give me something to look into because for now im stumped.
Thanks, Jeff
