I just upgraded all my tuning hardware/software and now I can't get my ALDL to connect. I went from the Prominator (standard) to the Ostrich 2.0, dumped my 90's toughbook and bought a new Toshiba, also added a LC-1 WBO2 and installed the WBO2 patch. Emulate and road test seem to have worked well, but ALDL won't connect.
In TPRT>Tools>Preferences>ALDL/Emulation>Test for valid cable; it detects it and states it's functioning. Com ports match in TPRT and Device MGR, yet when I try to connect it pauses for approx 15 secs then fails. I've tried to connect while on batt power and while plugged in to outlet, no difference. I reloaded the ALDL def with no change either.
All worked well with my old laptop and S_AUJP.V3. Anyone have any other ideas I should look into?
Using: 7730 w/S-AUJPV3.WBO2, TPRT 4.14, Ostrich 2.0, AKM ALDL cable w/serial to USB adapter.
Using Windows Vista, it detected the driver and said it installed correctly. Should I re-load the driver or try something else?
BTW, this is the second Serial to USB I have tried with the same results. AN el-cheapo from E-bay and this one from Radio Shack. How do I make this work?
Thanks.
Thanks JP86SS. I found the problem (I believe). I didn't realize these adapters weren't Vista compatible, but they each clearly show all other Windows OS except Vista in the instructions. Guess I need to start reading the instructions!
Vista Driver support may be the issue, but if Vista automatically installed the driver, most likely it's fine. As you and I determined the other night, something is definitely strange with the way the driver is acting, though.
I'd be really curious to see how an ALDU1 works. I've got one for you to try. If it does work, we know for sure that the problem is still with the Serial to USB converter.
Another Fine Example of Microsoft's non backwards compatible software at it's finest. I used to think Windows ME was a nightmare until I switched to Vista.. Now, I know 2 operating systems that really suck.

Just to close this out; Mark's ALDU1 connected and worked as soon as we hooked it up. The problem was definately the Serial to USB adapter and Vista drivers. I'm up and running again, Woo Hoo!
