I have just recently read about the ability to tweak my ecm to get the best performance from my truck. I have a...
1988 K1500 350 SB
edelbrock heads
exhaust system
670CFM TBI
plus other upgrades
I need to know what program or programs I will need to lean the fuel at idle. I have downloaded tunerpro and I have an aldl cable. I know the 670 TBI has caused similar problems to other people's trucks so is there a bin that anyone knows of that is a good starting point?
I have a custom edelbrock chip in the truck right now, is there a way to save the current configuration to my computer to upload if needed?
I know this is a mouth full but any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
What ecm# are you running?? Did the edelbrock chip come with a chip adapter?? You can go to Moates.net to get a chip adapter so that you can use newer style flash chips and I would also recommend the Burn1 for a simple chip burner. How do you know that it is running rich?? As for programs you will need windaldl for datalogging, as long as you have the 7747 ecm. You can use tunerpro to modify your current program as long as you read it with a chip reader AKA burn1. What is your current fuel pressure?? You can also datalog with tunerproRT. I hope this helps a little. Also check out Fullsizechevy.com for more info that is truck related.
i am not sure about the ecm number since the truck is not with me right now but I will figure that out tomorrow. The edelbrock chip was only the chip no adapter. With the burn1, it i a stand alone programmer, then I take the newly programmed chip to the truck, this does not interact with the truck computer directly then? So I will still need the ALDL to monitor the ecm in the truck. I know it is rich because there is a nice black soot mark under my exhust tip and black soot in the exhaust. My fuel pressure is 12 psi. Thanks for the quick reply.
I am going to take a couple of stabs into the dark here. First I am going to say that you probably have a 1227747 ECM. Second, the native .BIN is likely AMUR which is a 1988 C/K 1500 with a 350 TBI/700r4 combo.
As far as getting the setup running right, first bump the fuel delivery high enough for WOT, then put in a half-way decent timing table. Next dial back the part-throttle fuel. Now play with the spark and fuel alternately, to optimize your tables.
I do have the 700R4 trans. Where can I download the AMUR bin? When you explain what to do can it be done with tunerpro or a different program, and is it as easy as you made it sound? Are the timing tables preloaded or do I need to create it?
You are going to have to get the chip adapter for the flash chips and some new flash chips before you can replace your current Edel-Chip. You could get the Osterich from Moates if you want to do on the fly changes, but I would suggest getting familiar with everything first. Yes it is fairly easy as long as you understand basic engine dynamics. You can probably find A bin on Moates site. There are lots of stock and Modded calibrations there.
I do still have my old chip that I would like to first back up, then copy the edel-chip parameters to then edit those on the stock chip to fix the fuel problem, would I need another chip for the flahing?

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.
Don't copy ANY of the edel chip information. Start with your stock BIN, and set the FUEL and TIMING tables, as forementioned by Fast. Take that edelbrock chip; make a few bones, and put it on ebay.

If you plan on tuning the '7747 at a minimum it'll require a G2 adpater, Burn1, and some flash chips.
As for the Edelbrock chip I would recommend that you read it and save the BIN. The reason is that you are also running the Edelbrock heads. The engines SA is tied 85% to the heads (chamber, compression, etc.). The remaining 15% is mostly cam related.
The burn1 will allow me to download the edited parameters to the chip, and the G2 memory adapter will allow me to use the new style flash chips. With the burn1 i can save the chips I have as bin files, correct? Is the soldiering for the G2 that difficult? I will need the 27SF512 chip from moates with the G2 adapter. I checked my ECM and it is a 1227747 AKAL. Does this change any of the advice I have recieved. Thanks again, and I will let you all know how it turns out.
Nope, that sounds about right. Just get what you need, the g2 adapter is not hard to solder in. Just get a good soldering iron. Try reading your EDEL chip, save it. The try writing your EDEL.bin back to the flash chip and make sure your truck runs. then from there make small changes to get where you need to go.
And datalog alot, so you can see if your BLMs, (ve tables) are where they need to be, and you'll know if you are running rich.
