deaccelleration pop and jerking

I just gutted my cat and added a catback. Now sometimes when I let off the gas after some RPMs I get a pop or a backfire. Would this be consistant with a lean condition? If so whats the first step to tracking this down?

Most likely an exhaust leak.

Is this pop or backfire in the exhaust? If yes, I would have to say raw fuel in the exhaust when you let of the loud pedal. It is being lit by the hot pipes. I have seen mufflers blown apart this way.

Re: deaccelleration pop and jerking

if your smog pump is still hooked up blowing air into the exhaust it will cause that. if not, exhaust leak.

time to by pass it if you don't have cats. there may be a way to change stuff in the chip so that its in its vented to the outside air mode all the time. but I wouldn't have a clue how.
