ECM 1227165 MEMCAL bcc AKFM is it a reprogram candidate?

Have a very complete 1988 305 TPI IROC motor, with harness and ECM 1227165. First year of the MEMCAL with bcc AKFM.

Does this MEMCAL have any potential use for my 1227730 ECM (ie to run a speed density TPI)..or would it just be better as a replacement to a MAF owner?

Re: ECM 1227165 MEMCAL bcc AKFM is it a reprogram candidate?

What are you going to use it in, and with what wiring harness? That MEMCAL doesn't have an ESC module so it would require an external module for knock control. If you are putting it in a car that has the external module then use it. Cars originally equipped with a '730 don't use an external ESC module, they use one located inside the MEMCAL. You could add an external ESC module but that would require additional wiring and a pin change at the ECM. Assuming you are using a harness without the external module (because you mentioned '730 and speed density), it would be better to use a proper MEMCAL with the module built in.

It doesn't have the ESC filter that the '7730 uses. So it isn't a drop in for the SD setups. However, no reason one can't use it and run an external module, or wedge an LT4 module onto it.

Re: ECM 1227165 MEMCAL bcc AKFM is it a reprogram candidate?

Thanks..I already have (2) 730 ECMs. Still working on locating a MEMCAL and getting close..so I will go that route.

Would I be better off selling the 1227165/AKFM as is...or selling the entire engine/harness, MAF & snorkel, TPI engine and ECM as a unit?

Not talking about making money...but what would be the best option for forum members? I'd would only keep the harness for the connectors, don't need the ecm, MAF or snorkel...and really don't need the 1988 TPI unit & it's "attached" 305 engine. Just picked up a 1990 TPI unit...could just keep the complete 88 engine around for future parts.

If someone was restoring a 1988 305 IROC that had no engine/wiring/TPI..I could fix them up!
