Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

I'm planning on getting a Wideband A/F Ratio Gauge in the near future (Days...) because I know that I'll have some tuning to do eventually

But after looking at what's out there I was wondering how they connect to your ECM?

The original has only one wire... Is it a hard install?

I don't have a ton of cash so I was looking at this..... it about $100.oo cheaper than most....

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

If you want to connect it to the ECM you need to have a prg output on the WBO2 to simulate a NBO2. Then you will use the WBO2 for the closed loop operation.

I dont think there is a WBO2 code for the 6E? yet so you can log the true AFR with a scanner through the ALDL but I dont know.

Download the LM1 manual and read about it.
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/support.php

Otherwise just leave the stock O2 sensor in and add a xtra bung for the WBO2.

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

Thanks, after sleeping on it....... or not sleeping

I figured that the WB A/F monitoring would be stand alone for my use only (for tuning etc) and not tied into the ECM in particular.......

I guess I'll be running 2 A/F sensors........

Thanks once again for setting me straight

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

Most WideBand O2 Sensors have a narrow band (stock) and wide band output.

So the narrow band output can but used as the stock wire to the computer.

I'm going with code59 (using my stock 730 computer in the car), which has built in programming to actually monitor wide band via ecm (along with boost), etc...

The LC-1 is a popular, some love it, some hate it... I think I'm going with a PLX AFR, they have a sick display for it

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

There is a patch for 8D, $58, to see AFR via the ALDL. But I'm not sure there is a 6E patch for display WBO2 through ALDL.............

Will also go $59 this year.

I Have LM1 and LC1. I like the LM1 logging thing and its software.

There was an older thread that I explained how to modify the code to add WB logging capabilty to 6E.
I'll see if I can dig it up for you.
http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/di...osed-loop.html (wbo2 closed loop?)
Its a long thread and gets on track on the second page for changing the code.
This is for logging the voltage output of your WB controller.
It is not needed if you install a gauge but is nice to have the WB data with the rest of your log.
The WB gauges run from a voltage output that is generated by the WB controller (not just from a sensor). Most of the WB gauges out there cost $150 or more and may/may not contain a controller and sensor. Those cost around $350 or more.
If its a gauge that runs from your stock sensor, it is not a WB indication.

I just bought one of these for $65 but don't have it yet.
http://prosportgauges.com/digital-ai...olt-gauge.aspx
You still need a sensor and controller to use it. (I'll be using my LC-1 and Bosch sensor with it)
One output will be going to the gauge, the other will be used by the ECM for logging.

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

Wow..... thanks guys for the quick responses.

Looks like I'm gonnna have to do alot of reading / learning when it comes to PROMS & tuning Im a little shell shocked right now.....

I guess I'll just take it one step at a time..... Read the stickies..... do the searches..... and ask alot of dumb questions.... I'll be learning a new language.....

Sorry my mistake have not used V4 yet

But logging WBO2 via ALDL is nice when you are tuning.

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

Been thinking along the same lines logging my LM-1 0-5V output.
Found this from Mike Davis.
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/WB_hacs/
6E bin at bottom of page.

His downloadable bin has
"A virgin copy of the Base eprom used in this hac, a modified copy of that same image with only the datalogging feature added to the image, and finally a text (.txt) file explaining how to hookup the WB to the ECM in that hac and what the hac is doing.."

So you use both outputs from the WB ;
the simulated NB to run the ECM and the 0-5V for AFR datalogging through Datamaster / Tunerpro. Only the WB O2 sensor needed.

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

i think that hack is for non linear output WB, and LC1 is linear so that hack won't work.

How about being really basic and logging the 0-5V WB output into the 165 fuel pump Volt input?
Even having to look up the WB V v AFR table manually at least you would have the info on the same datalog for comparison.
The LM-1 datalogs but unless you have the LM3-A add on to log revs , etc , you have nothing to reference your WB log by .
Is only useful for real time indication while you are driving , slightly dangerous.

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

I got the LC-1 with G3 gauge kit from innovate motorsports. 290 for the kit, gauges are 100 bucks seperately if you already have the wideband.

G series gauges work with either LM1 or LC1 but are analog gauges. No worries if you want digital then get the digital version for the same price.. just not called the G gauges i forget what it is but its on the site

I just shoved my gauge between the dash and above the cigarette lighter housing area.. fits great there and works well. doesnt look bad at all and is easy for me to drive and look at the gauge when i need to

In the other thread it indicates there is injector compensation done using the FP input. I'm not positive that both inputs are used for this but someone did respond that it indeed uses both FP and Batt Volt inputs for that.
The thread shows how to make it work, I just never got feedback from the guy to know if there were any other side effects before posting it.
He was to post it but obviously had other troubles to work out.

it's nice to have have a gauge to look at, but i think having wideband in data stream is a great way to tune and compare to other data. I used to write codes in assembly language about 8 years ago, and I am going to figure out a way to have a hac for E6 WB linear output.
Wish me luck

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

Q. A WB is acturate 10 - 20 AFR; a stock NB is accurate only around 14.7 only.
Does the "simulated" NB output reflect the accuracy of the WB signal it is generated from?
As in does 12.8 "simulated NB " represent 12.8 actual?

If it does then the WB signal being inputed to run the ECM ( as in my case ) would be datalogging correct AFR.

Re: Wideband A/F Gauge Install???

From what I understand, the wideband is 5v, the narrow is 1v.

For the narrow band, the set point is 14.7, with a bit above / below, not much resolution with 1v. The wideband uses 5v, more resolution and range...

So for the nb, anything below target is low, above is high, basically is the signal it's giving...

There is a trick to get around this. Just get an Autoprom and the connector for the 3 Extra A/D Inputs for it. Wire the Wideband o2 Output to it and then you can add those 3 extra inputs to the ALDL Stream in the ADS file so they will be logged. you can add a Wideband o2, EGT, Trans Temp, Fuel Pressure, etc. As long as it outputs a 0 - 5v signal. With this setup you can log the wideband o2 for ECMs that there is not patch for the code. I was doing this before we got it all working in 59.
