Using electronic vehicle speed sensor with ARAP.bin whats needed??

Hey guys my TKO600 is broken and I'm considering swapping in a T56. I'd use the T56 vss and an Autometer electronic speedometer. How do I feed vehicle speed data to my old MAF ECM? I know it will need vehicle speed input, but I dont know what format it needs or the best way to wire it up. This will be one of the biggest problems I'll have swapping to a T56. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

'165 requires a 2K PPM signal, digital. Depending upon the T56 reluctor setup a DRAC may be the ticket.

Sorry but I have no idea what a DRAC is... I'm not sure what the output of the T56 is, I'll have to see if I can look it up, but i'm guessing its not 2000 pulses per mile, that would be too easy...

Without even looking, no, a DRAC is a GM box that was used on many trucks. DRAC is close to "digital ratio adpater controller." An inexpensive box ($15 - $20 at a JY) that GM used. Has a series of jumpers to set the VSS ratio.

Jeremy, I picked up a couple DRACs out of the bone yard from early 90's pickups for $5 each. Look at my jerico VSS thread there is some info on it. I can also email you the files the RBob sent me.

I'll be wiring mine up very soon so we'll see how that goes. I just got the trans back in tonight.

That sucks that your TKO is broke. What happened? This is the 2nd broken TKO that I've heard about in the last hour. Must have been a bad weekend for TKO's.

Re: Using electronic vehicle speed sensor with ARAP.bin whats needed??

Thanks for the info guys. The link I posted is the Dakota Digital signal converter that sounds like it does what the DRAC does. I'll certainly keep that in mind. That will make a T56 swap a little more feasible for me.

Stan, the front bearing on the counter shaft came completely apart and spun the race in the front of the transmission case. I was driving it home when it started happening, It eventually locked up because the counter shaft moved far enough that the gears got in a bind. There is not other visible damage to any other components inside the trans. I'm going to be calling a few places today to find out what might have happened. I need to know why that bearing failed before I re-build the transmsmission. I'm becoming lukewarm to these Tremec TKOs as well. This is the second problem i've had with this transmission. When I first got it the hardening on the pilot bushing surface of the input shaft was bad, which hogged out the pilot bushing, messed up the end of the shaft, and damaged the front mainshaft bearing.

It looks like the bearing wasn't getting lubricated well enough, but its at the bottom of the case so I can't see how that happened. Its not a very big bearing, about the size of a stock thirdgen front wheel bearing. Maybe it just can't take the power?
