Ok so i just want to clear up my intentions, i was told that by using a datalogging program i could see how my car is running by tapping into the ecm similar to the way its done at dealerships with scantools. By the name im assuming i can save my info and tune from it right? which i could use to burn my own chips? I eventually want to be able to burn my own chips but right now my camaro is stock minus the exhaust so i just want to get in depth on how its running.

I would be using my laptop and i went on moates site and as far as i know i need the aldl cable and then a program right? SHould i just use tunerpro? Or is there another one i should use??

to datalog you will need Moates ALDU1 and CABLE1. $80

You will also need to download TunerPro RT.

This will allow you to see what a scan tool would see and then some.

When its time to tune get a W-B o2, it will be well worth the money. Also will need more hardware from Moates at that time.

perfect thank you i was honestly afraid of being flamed for not knowing lol would there be any harm in hooking up a wideband 02 sensor early? what exactly is invloved in that do i just run it to a wideband afr gauge or would it go to my laptop as well?

No one laughs at new people asking questions - we ALL were newbies at one time. So welcome and don't be afraid to ask anything (except getting someone else to tune your car...that's a no-no).

As for the WBO2, most have a guauge and can capture directly onto a Laptop with their own software. Further, some of the "bins" S_AUJP_V4 has code to capture WB02 readings directly so you record with your own scan tool at a later date. The ONLY negative is the "capture rate" of even the FASTEST ECMs is no more than 6 times / second.

Some of the software that comes with the WBs can record at a faster rate which you may find beneficial. I know a number of people the use both their scantool and the software with the WB to record both. But, in all fairness, unless there's some problem (like knock), the WB seems to be the more important info to capture when tuning in WOT.

I find the scantool recording better for either problems OR part-throttle tuning.

ok so wheni buy a wb02 it should have a gauge and it will also hook to my laptop? Im a bit confused on that, would it take the place of my existing 02 sensor?

this can be ties in to your ecm and will need a code added to your bin so the emc will see it. This in turn will then be in your datastream and show up in TunerPro.

You can also use this as a stand alone and hook up a gauge

I currently have it hooked up to my ecm and monitor it on my laptop but have plans on oredering the gauge when I'm done tuning so I can watch it without the laptop.

ok well how hard is it to tie it into the ecm something a newb can do? Im pretty good with computers but some of the stuff is kinda insane lol I want to have it run to a gauge as a permanent addition because i think i want that info at all times lol but tying it into tunerpro would be nice

The hardware part is as simple as finding the correct pin to put the wire on. The soft ware will take a little more work cause you will need to be able to burn a new chip with a code in it so the ecm will know to read that pin and send the info to the aldl line. Without searching I can't tell you which pin to use on your ecm or which code to use but I'll see if I can come up with something.

This is what I was looking for. I am now looking into programming my car as well. I have been to the Moates website and emailed them a couple of times several weeks ago but to no avail. I'm not sure about all I am going to need in order to adjust and burn new chips. As far as I know this is what I need. Would someone please tell me what else or what I don't need? This is what I think that I need but not positive. I really don't want to spend more than I need to.
