I started on my quest for a 7730 swap this last week and I'm already regretting it. I hear now that the 7730 can't use a 2 bar map, has this been changed since then? Also this memcal nonsense has me about ready to scrap everything I just bought and buy an aftermarket controller! I picked up a full camaro wiring harness, and an ECM from a 3.1 liter Corsica that does have the knock module built in. Now I'm hearing that I can't use this setup at all. Is there any way to make this module work? I don't care a bit about limp home mode, I just don't want to sink anymore money into this setup, it's rapidly getting NOT worth it. I'm sure alot of other folks would be really happy if they found a way to work out the 3.1 liter ECM's considering the stock memcals now go for a fortune.

As far as the 2 bar MAP goes, the Code 59 guys are using them.
We are using 3 BAR MAP sensors.
The ECM is not the limiation to what MAP sensor can be used.
The 7730 has been used with 1, 2 and 3 BAR MAP sensors. I have personally used 1 and 2 BAR with a '7730. I'm using a '7749 in my current set-up using code59.
The BIN is what determines what MAP sensor is to be used. $8D, $6D, $A1, all use a 1 BAR MAP sensor, while $8F and $58 uses a 2 BAR, all have been used on '7730. $59 uses 3 BAR and has been used on '7730.
You'll be able to start and run your engine with the 6cyl MEMCAL, it just may not run completly right. I had a 4cyl MEMCAL in my 7749 for the first week my car was running, then swapped to a 6cyl MEMCAL, I also made a couple other changes but the engine ran smoother after swapping in a matching cylinder count MEMCAL.
There have been a few threads on modifying the MEMCAL for different cylinder select that may be of interest to you.
Don't give up, it's not that difficult to get it all together.
Re: Memcal options now that the price has gone crazy
I currently have one and only 1 V8 memcal. I myself will be using modified 4 and 6 cyl memcals possibly with external esc modules if possible. Setting up the Limp calibration will be a problem though.
Re: Memcal options now that the price has gone crazy
Vette stuff isn't worth as much as the Camaro stuff. The vette stuff is 7727, Camaro is 7730. I could get a weatherpack corvette style setup cheap but I don't want to have to do yet another repin to the harness.
Re: Memcal options now that the price has gone crazy
I've done alot of looking into the LS1 programming and I've got to say this is where I'm wanting to head. Using the van stuff and the Vortec crab cap distributor I already have the Vortec timing cover with the relucator ring and such so I can make this work pretty easy. Hopefully someone gets the ECM hacked out that way we can have some more programming options. All of the stuff in these ECM's is better. Better milleage, you can do a through maf dry shot, it's sequential; the swap would pay for itself in no time. This really doesn't change the original post about what to do for Memcals, but it does give us an all around option for replacing them with something better.
