Hi, great forum you guys got here. Whatever search for tuning you do at Google, you eventually end up here. What a pool of knowledge, respect!!! I have been doing quite a bit of reading and making some progress, thanks to "Pandin" as well. I am helping out a friend with a 86 Vette 383 to get the tune right, using TunerPro 6E and ARAP bin. He got some major stalling issues when shifting from idle into gear. Seems to work though when he has the EST plug disconnected. Question: How can I tune idle, that it reflects the values like EST has been disconnected, even though it's not? Common sense would suggest to take out all timing advance at idle? How low could/should I go, is there some simple math to it? Thanks

With the EST BYPASS connector open the spark timing will be at whatever the distributor base timing is. This is true as long as the RPM is below 1600 RPM or so. There is advance built into the module once the RPM starts to climb (limp mode stuff).

For stalling when dropping into gear if the convertor is too tight for the cam it can stall. Make sure that the park/neutral switch to the ECM is connected and working. The in-prk/neut idle speed should be higher then the in-gear idle speed.

A data log can tell you about the spark timing and what it is doing.
