TBI Tuning / E6 ECM 16168625

I've searched and seen lots of tuning help for the more popular TBI ECM's. I'm wondering if someone can point toward more detailed tuning information for the E6 ECM 16168625.

My vehicle is a 93 GMC 5.7 / 4L60E 4x4. I have upgraded to an OEM factory spec TPI roller cam - roller lifter upgrade (.410 / .426 lift). The TBI is a 454 TBI with 68 lb injectors. Shorty headers - 3 inch single exhaust.

I'm using an Ostrich 2.0 / Tuner Cats and DataMaster software.

I think I'm close, most of my BLM's are between 135 ~ 121. I've only changed the timing so far, I've cloned the 8D open throttle timing into the E6 .bin file.

Is there anything like VE Master for the E6 ECM 16168625?

Thanks,
dave w

Re: TBI Tuning / E6 ECM 16168625

Look at all posts involving the 16197427 PCM with $0D mask. This PCM is the successor to your PCM and most calibration parameters are similar.

Look on www.moates.net site for a program called VEPHD. This is a DOS command line program that can be setup to do the same thing VEMASTER does, except it can be changed to work with any OBDI GM ECM. Study the vephddat file for an understanding of what it does. Its a tad more cumbersome than VEMASTER but its a great tool.

There aren't. VEMASTER only works for a few ECMs as far as I can remember. I think $8D and some LT1 masks. VEPHD works with any OBDI if you set it up to work with your ECM/PCM. Again, look at the VEPHDDAT file included in the zip file and it will get clearer. For ex. the $0D mask uses two VE tables, one for off idle and one for near idle. Since the RPM and MAP axis labels are different, you have to run VEPHD for the two tables separately since the DAT file doesn't allow changes in the table resolution in the DAT setup file. The one difference between VEMASTER and VEPHD is VEMASTER automatically changes the values in the target BIN file. VEPHD requires you to cut and paste the final VE table result from EXCEL into the target BIN file. You shouldn't just blindly cut and paste before looking over the results to make sure things look right though. VEPHD works with any editor that you can paste tables into from EXCEL. I know it works with Tunercat. The WUD that comes with EBL also has a VE learn feature that works similar.

where i do get that you have to input your ve table somewhere, logged data somewhere, setup how your ve tables look and then it runs some formulas and you copy the ve table back into Tunerpro and then check the graph to see if it did anything weird.

the quote above is from the .dat and doesn't do a thing for me. but i'm also excel stupid and can't even figure out how to get a worth while graph out my logs. so this is prob over my head too.

any links to a "how to" written up anywhere?

and from what i've read, vemaster doesn't work with tunerpro... but i could be wrong there too.

Re: TBI Tuning / E6 ECM 16168625

I found this information on using VEPhd

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/diy-prom/152684-cm-vephd-program.html

I am using the TTS DataMaster program for data logging (MAP/RPM/BLM) information. DataMaster exports the (MAP/RPM/BLM) data logging information into Excel.

Re: TBI Tuning / E6 ECM 16168625

hmm so i just spend like 3 hours, yes i'm that dumb lol. to get this to work... only to get to the part where you past vephdout file into the VEPHD VE Calculator section, then clicked the tap to look where to put my ve table from my bin in and noticed the size and shape are nothing like the $8D setup.

i'm going to take a wild guess and say modifying the front page of the VEPHD VE Calculator to match my ve tables lay out is wayyyy over my head and i may as well give up now.

blah.. i fail so hard at this its kinda funny. atleast i'm at work and wasted my time on the clock lol

Re: TBI Tuning / E6 ECM 16168625

playing this this somemore...

if you invert the map values in the dat file the program runs and spits out a file but its all 0's.

if you just changes the number of rpm rows and map columns the program gives you something that looks right but the calculator doesn't do anything with it when pasted in.

i guess i could try hand copying my small ve tables into cells and seeing what happens.

nope, can't even type into the ve table part without it changing to some different format and the output doesn't work.

guess i really do have to give up on this.

Re: TBI Tuning / E6 ECM 16168625

I didn't get VEPhd to work, but I should soon. I think I was able to figure out how to make fuel map adjustments using Histogram data for the Main Fuel Table vs MAP vs RPM for both open / closed throttle maps. I've posted screen shots of before adjustments (left) and after adjustments (right) of the Histograms. Both Histograms have about 8000 scans, driving the same route (+/- a few stop lights). I made adjustments to the 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 maps and associated RPM's. I know I have more work, but before I spend more time making more adjustments, I could use some feedback if I'm going in the correct direction?

Thanks,
dave w

The problem is you are trying to use a program for advanced tuners. VEPHD, VEMASTER, etc. are tools to speed up the data analysis that beginners should be doing by hand the long way. In other words until you learn how to use logged data and use BLM data at each load point in the VE table to correct your VE tables, you shouldn't even attempt to use the shortcuts. You also need to know how to use EXCEL fairly well too.

But to summarize, VEPHDDAT is the file which sets up the VE table calculations. It is where you select the RPM and MAP ranges and table axis labels, the data columns for BLM, INT, cell #, RPM, MAP, etc. By the way, if you only have one BLM column, use this column for both BLM1 and BLM2, same with INT1 and INT2. If you try and use zero like the program says you'll get bad results. VEPHDIN is the input file. This is your collected ALDL data file either from TUNERPRO, DATAMASTER, or WINALDL. I tend to organize my data files with the same form that WINALDL spits out because I'm use to it. The VEPHDIN file needs to be in CSV text format I think. Finally the VEPHDOUT is the resulting output file that you cut and paste into the VEPHD EXCEL main page. BTW, the VEPHD EXCEL file is not setup for $0D when you first unzip it. You have to change the tables and formulas for the ECM/PCM you are using. I keep a separate folder for each ECM that I work with with the VEPHD files setup for that particular ECM. In other words VEPHD comes setup for 1227747 ($42) I think. I copy all the files into a $0D folder and then change everything to work with $0D in that folder. Repeating this process I end up with a separate folder for each mask ID.

Just checking, it my understanding the VE table calculations use the following formula? (BLM*INT)/128 WITH CURRENT VE TABLE

If there are other formulas involved...I sure will but them to use.

I've done my VE changes based on the above formula. The E6 definition file I'm working on has VE tables for both open / closed throttle. It's just more muck for the mess to deal with... separating LTerm data with TPS% greater than Zero .

The biggest pain in the butt for me is getting sufficient data into all the cells from actual driving. I don't think a dozen or so data point in a cell is going to be accurate? I'm glad gas is less than half the price from summer '08 prices!
