Hey guys, I'm new here kind of, I've been reading for the last month or so and I decided I needed a Burn 2, the G1 adapter, a ZIF socket, chips and the adapter to read memcals so I got that all ordered and I'm just waiting on it to come in. My concern is this, what problems, if any, are going to come up trying to moddify the 4.3L tune I will read off my memcal to use it as a base tune for my 350? The truck doesnt actually run all that bad with the V6 tune, I know the fuel will be easy enough to modify as I see fit but what about the spark tables? I haven't even played around with the software yet but how do I tell it how many cylinders my engine has? Is tuning this truck and then burning it to the chip going to be somewhat similar to when I use to tune my old Mazda with a megasquirtII for fuel and spark or is it completly different?
Edit: Ok just D/L'd tunerpro to play with it and get to know it, first let me say I'm running Vista, now how do I open a .bin file?
After more reading I guess I also have to have the XDF file to go with the .bin? Is that right? Does the XDF get read from my memcal or do I have to get it off the internet? Sorry this is all new to me, like I said my only experience is with megasquirt.

You really need to use an 8 cylinder MEMCAL to match the engine, especially if you modify the cylinder number in the bin itself. The ECM checks the MEMCAL to make sure that the cylinder count on the MEMCAL matches what is in the bin on the chip. If it doesn't you can get an SES light or worse yet a poorly running engine, most likely both.
Without having the proper cylinder count the data on the ALDL data stream that relates to RPM will be off, and can really screw up tuning, especially the tables that have an RPM axis.
Yes the XDF is something you create or download from the interweebnetz. You need to do some research to find out which one matches your bin, and then use that.

I found I have the $OD XDF, So far I have downloaded the $OD XDF files and got a copy of a bin file that it from an engine very close to mine to play with but I cant open it with TunerPro, or anything else for that matter, how do I open it?
