Okay I've read all the articles and I must say that there's tons of info out there for tuning a 165 ECM MAF car. Alot of the posts out there are fairly old and talk about old tuning methods and old hardward / software. From my understanding, all I would need is Tuner Pro RT with the AutoProm package, Zif and chips (all purchased through Moates.net for about 520$ CAD).
I find that there is more info regarding speed density setups than there is for MAF setups. Perhaps there are many things I have not read yet on here...
I have a question though. Is it possible with Tuner Pro RT and the AutoProm package from moates, to take the TPI Parts.net custom chip I have in my car already, and keep those settings as a baseline to modify? Or do I have to use a bin from somewhere off the net? Not sure how that works... I would like to use the chip settings that I have already in my car and improve on that... I beleive it's the code from an 89 MAF with all the correct settings for my engine, (!EGR, !AIR, !VATS, etc.)
I am going to tune my 'fuel' settings first to get the BLMs and INTs at 128 accross the board first (with the help of datalogging). This is what I know how to do so far (based on some posts from various threads).
So, that is my question for the day, if I can use the chip settings and HOW would I go about doing so?
Thanks guys,
-Marc

Okay maybe that was a vague post.. My question was:
How do I copy the settings from my TPIPARTS.NET chip to my computer with AutoProm?
Anyone?
Thnx..

I think you can, call craig moates, moates.net. I have the same set up as you but it seems like the stock chip doesn't plug all the way into the zif adapter, leftover pins?. I was gonna try to copy my stock chip but I gave up. I'd like to see this question answered too.
But I do remember on tunerpro, next to the upload bin to emulator button on the tool bar there is a download current bin button, maybe that's it?
Hmmm... If that's the case that would be bad... I have a custom chip already tho (from TPI PARTS.NET, with the moates adapter thingy... not sure exactly tho, i don't think it's the ZIF socket..)... I will ask Moates and find out but I have try to fit it myself.
I guess in TunerPro RT that would be the option to do so once we get it plugged in? (download current bin)
When I find out i'll be sure to post it here.

ohh this is to read the stock memcal (that blue chip).. i have the moates G1 adapter with a custom chip on it already from TPIPARTS.NET. I wanted to use those settings and import them to TunerPro RT, not from the stock memcal (either way the chip overrides the stock memcal anyways right?). Is it the same thing? Just plug the moates chip into the Autoprom and import from tuner pro rt?

Just got into this today and tried to pull it out of the socket (the TPIPARTS chip out of the moates ZIF socket) and it's hard, I'm afraid to break the chip... The actual chip attaches to a black socket, that attaches to the green ZIF chip... But it's not like there's anyway to take it out but pry it out and i DONT want to break it.. Does this actually come out or is it like permanently attached to the chip?
I tried downloading the bin to my PC laptop (windows 7) and 'worked'.. The file saved but the numbers and everything seem very wrong... Nothing is at all what it should be. It's very weird.. Any idea why?

Here are some links for $6E tuning in case you want to migrate over to the later MAF based tune. There are a lot more things to tweak and adjust. The timing is really advanced in the ARAP bin, so you will want to copy the spark tables from your 305 bin to start with. There are some other differences, like the EGR tables, Cold Start Injector, etc. There should be a good comparable 305 bin for the 89 model year that you can use, I just happened to start with an ARAP (corvette, aluminum heads) BIN.
The TPIparts.net chip looks like a $6E bin with a few changes to it, but much like a stock chip. You can accomplish a lot more by doing your own custom tuning and making small changes at a time and datalogging.
"Fuel and spark advance tables are not modified, so there is no performance gain with this service as compared to stock."
