Re: 749 swap

A 749 ECM swap is what people change from if they are planning on running a Supercharger or Turbo on their cars. They can start like I dd using a 165 ECM which is basically for Mass Air Flow systems. I then had repin the entire ecm to swap to a 7730 which gives me the speed density and then do a minor repin to a 7749 ECM which allows for Boost control. The main reason alot of people do a 749 swap is to run the $58 or the new $59 code. This swap isn't really necessary and it can be done with a 730 ecm but I was never able to get it to work properly. To swap to a 749 takes about 1 hour and a purchase of a new Map sensor (usually a 2 bar on a $58 and a 3 bar on a $59)

Re: 749 swap

That's all new to me. Does the $58 and so forth mean it cost 58 dollars?

Re: 749 swap

Not even a close guess. The internal guts is what is called the $58. This is the basic program or the PROM or so called mask inside the ECM.. The 165 ECM uses a $32, The 7730 uses an AUJP chip and I believe is a $8D on most occasions. So the 7749 has to use it's own mask or prom and that is a $58 for a 2 bar map and a $59 for a 3 bar map sensor. If you are planning a turbo or S/C I would highly recommend on running a 7749 with a $59 mask. YOu can learn more about the $59 on

Everything that I have talked about above is what tuners use to help get their cars run better. You do need special software and equipment to use 99.5% of this advise..

Things that are needed

Laptop
Autoprom or Ostrich
Ribbon Cable and EEProm Adapters
Tunerpro or Cats

More information can be found for equipment on

Re: 749 swap

Thanks for all the information. If the car has that already and I don't plan on putting a Supercharger in it, will it run alright with out that?

Thanks

Re: 749 swap

Looking at maybe purchasing one and he said it already has the 774 and $58 done to it and if I get it, I don't plan on charging it. Will I need to remove what has already been done?

Thanks guys
