I don't know if this is the right forum for this question...but I figured you guys would know best about this....my question is I purchased a air/fuel meter gauge (yes it's narrow band and yes I know they are not very good...ran out of money..way overbudget this year)...but the instructions say to splice the wire into the factory o2 sensor wire...now will this affect the operation of the o2 sensor being read by the computer?? I was thinking that it would change the voltage somehow and affect the computer?? Or is this okay to do?? please let me know.....thanks in advance....

As long as it has a very high impedance input (and it should), it shouldn't affect the signal. It really won't help you tune much though.

I know I can't tune with it very well.......I am going to tune on the dyno....the gauge is pretty much to fill a hole in the dual gauge pod at the moment...I went way over budget this year and those darn wide bands are expensive...so I cut out some items that I didn't absolutely need....it's just temporary for now...kinda for looks....but since they work I figured I'd hook it up....how accurate are narrow bands...they just bounce from lean to rich kinda like the o2 sensor is read by computer..kinda like on off right??? or am I wrong.....electronics are my worst field....

I have the Autometer AFR gage as well, in my dual pod. It really does not affect normal NB operation of the O2 sensor. As mentioned, not good for tuning, but it can have some other "uses". IE, you can tell when your engine goes into closed/open loop. You can tell when your O2 sensor has warmed up. You can tell if it goes into highway mode, provided you use it. And also when you go into PE mode. Plus the lights flashing back and forth tell you that the sensor is working.

Many other basic mods. Continuous PROM tuning. Got traction, need reaction!

okay.....give me the rundown on how you tell all this is working according to gauge......i'm curious
Like somebody said above, do a search on highway mode and PE mode. Lots of good info out there on these subjects. okay.....give me the rundown on how you tell all this is working according to gauge......i'm curious
Well there is alot to talk about here, i just dont want to type tthat much. But once you really get into chip burning, you will learn how your ECM works, and what it does to run your engine. I can give a few tips.
What kind of AFR guage you gots? My AM gage is just the round type with lots of LEDs that light up left to right, lean to rich. It doesnt really give you an AFR. I've had that guage long time, but now have WB LM1 wired in permenant for the real AFR. As the engine warms up, and thus the O2, you can see how the lights react. A good working sensor, and correctly tuned ECM, will show the NB O2 bouncing back and forth from rich to lean very fast. That is good. When you go into PE mode, IE the loud pedal, it will smash rich and stay all lite up. When it goes into highway mode, IE lean cruise, it will wont light any lights, meaning way lean, and hold there. Some guys use open loop mode alot, so the O2 will act different then. I just let it work normal, and when it heats up enough, and the timers run out, i use closed loop all the time.
Hope that gets you going.
yeah my gauge has lights from lean to rich.....I understand everything now...makes sense...that helps a lot.....I appreciate it....I know it's not good for tuning like a wide band...but that is coming soon....at least hopefully this year...I am trying to save enough money for a tko trans swap...which maybe is another question you could answer....do you have to do anything different with the computer when you switch to a manual trans....a quick answer will be okay...just curious....when i get the tranny installed I'll research that end of it further...but one step at a time....
