I'm hoping someone can come through with a good link for id'ing(?) broadcast codes. Please don't tell me to search more. I've been searching for day's. Most newbies are told to keep searching, which doesn't help when we don't even know the correct terms to search for. After all this searching for a correct bin definition for my car I just found out that it is called a broadcast code. I've been wondering why a file can't be called 90iroc5L5sp or something like that so that I know what it is instead of ASDF,LKJF,QWER,XCVB, or some other set of letters that make no sense to me. I'm sure once I have the code key it will make sense.
Have you click on the search tab above and typed 'broadcast code'. It's not very help full. After I get the correct bin def. I still need ALDL def aparently for tunerpro rt.

Because $8D is the code used for the 727 / 730 ECM
$6E is for 165 ECM .
I don't think $8D was ever used in the '7727 in a factory application.
There are many more broadcast codes than just $8D used in the '7730, including $88, $A1, just to name a couple.
There was also $32 and $32B for the '165 ECM.
You can see the broadcast code on the 32K bins (any that I have seen anyway), by looking at the HEX byte at location 08 in a HEX editor. Other codes, like $42, which is a 4K bin used in the '7747, had this ID byte at location 04.

My mind doesn't do well with simple answers like use $8D. My mind want's to know why and see it for my self. I can't just turn this computer on and say 'great, it works'. I have to see for my self how and why something works. I like to take things apart and see whats inside. It drove my mom crazy when I was a kid and it drives my wife crazy today. I'd take apart my plasma tv if it didn't cost me $2000! Gauranteed the day it breaks is the day I have a plasma tv in a million pieces on the living room floor before my wife gets home!
Anyway, I just would like to know where you find all this info. Just follow this forum for 5 years? I just don't want to do something to my cars computer that can't be undone without having to buy a new ecu. $$$!
$8D is the ALDL Definition listed on TP site for 90-91 LB9/L98 F-Body which he has.
$88 is listed as for 90-92 F Body V6 (LH0)
Yes, but your post was miss-leading, to someone new to DIY tuning.
The way it reads is that those are the ONLY BCCs for those ECMs, when they are not.
$88 was also used in J-bodies in 1987 to 1990 IIRC.
RBob, I completly forgot that the Y-body used an underhood ECM.
Wasn't there something different about the mask used in that car specifically though for the HUD/milage displays?
It was selected for the OP's application and this is a 3rd Gen site.
With many people here that don't own 3rd gens, including myself. There are a vast number of people that come here looking for information on DIY tuning that have no intention of ever owning a 3rd gen, but with this being the best resource on the 'net, people get refered to here. It's best to make statements that aren't missleading.

That's doesn't sound any different than the 3rd gen, that would be "VATS".
