I installed a T56 in my 87 Camaro awhile back and I'm trying to hook up my SGI. I have a mechanical speedo cable, so I know I'm out of luck trying to get that part to work unless I get electronic gauges and blah blah.
I am trying to get the signal to the PROM at least, so that it will quit throwing a code, and possibly run better. Where do I tap in at?
Is it that single yellow wire going into the PROM?
Thanks...

I found a wiring diagram. Says the the wire that runs from the VSS buffer to the ECM is brown on A10... I found such a wire. It was a shimmering becon of hope.
My question is this... if I cut the brown wire and go from the SGI box straight to the ECM will it work?
OR, maybe I need to cut whatever wire is going INTO the VSS buffer. I still don't really know what the VSS buffer is or what it looks like... so whatever.
I'm trying very hard not to screw everything up, but if no one has any answers I will be left with trial and error... which sucks.
So I have now figured out that the VSS buffer is behind my gauge cluster. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but that is what converts the mechanical speedo to an electric signal which then is sent to the computer?
It seems that I have answered another of my questions... because if I am not once more mistake, I can't really tap into anything BEFORE the VSS buffer.
So now I ask you all... If I tap into that VSS wire going into the ECM with the output from my SGI... Will the computer get the propper signal? Will the computer know how fast the car is going once I calibrate it?
The brown wire going to A10 of the ECM is the VSS input. You need to cut the wire to prevent the buffer from interfering with the SGI signal. That input to the ECM is a digital signal of 2000 PPM. So use the correct output from the SGI and set up the PPM accordingly.
The wires from the T56 VSS to the SGI box need to be twisted together. This is to reduce noise.
Hooked it all up just as you said and everything works just fine. The computer finally knows how fast the car is going again. It should be really easy to hook up any electronic speedo now.
