16197427 Vortec V6 Transplant Help

Got a 93 vortec V6 with the original ECM transplanted into a 1963 frame off restoration International Scout 80.

Engine Mods:
Bored 0.060 over
Little bit larger intake and exhaust valves
Flow improved and matched heads
CMPI injection (Factory - will all new spider injectors)
Sanderson Shorty Headers
SM465 manual tranny

I am very familer with engines, software programming and electrical engineering just new to ECM programming!

Running APU1 emulator and TunnerPro RT (Thanks to Craig Moates for great product!) I am running the Advanced $0D V100 .xdf that if found on another post and thank you to who ever made that becase it has made a ton of difference and help! I have dissabled the auto transmission and set flag to manual, diabled purg canister, dissabled VSS, PE and EGR! I have forced Open loop and now working on the tunning. After inital start up my manifold KPA was at about 99.7 kpa with key on and 43.8 kpa at idle, made some big corrections to IAC tables and now i am idling arround 78.00 KPA witch i have read 80.00 KPA is normal. And yes i have checked it with the air cleaner off to make sure it wasnt restricting the flow. I have adjusted the VE table for Idle, it runs sounds great and INT and BLM are 128 128 in all RPM ranges, but been trying tune OFF Idle VE tables and when i drive it it falls on its face as soon as it lowering the map KPA. I have even tried making drastic changes to the table and can not seem to get it even close!

So any advice or if someone has a bin close to what i have done to compare with would be awsome! Thank you very much!!

You really should have the VSS installed and operating on with that PCM. It helps control many things that are often not obvious initially. The VSS helps control the IAC, which helps driveability ALOT. 78 KPA is WAY high for MAP at idle, 43.8 is much closer and I have a feeling you could get that into the high-mid 30s with a little more tweaking. Put some additional TPS/MAP AE in it and see what happens. I swapped one of these engines into a 1987 S15 GMC Jimmy and tuned it. Even with the stock cam and intake, it was a BEAST.

Re: 16197427 Vortec V6 Transplant Help

Thats what i thought on the KPAs but i read a post that talked about them being around 80 for idle on the V6 so i gave that a try today but 30 sounds much more like it to me. I can easily obtain that with a little IAC tweaking. I have the correct VSS Buffer for my tire size and gearing but have had a impossible time finding a VSS to thread on to the output of the DANA 18 transfercase.

Thank you for your input!

There's a new version of the xdf over at Moates, titled Advanced 0D v175.zip. Lots of minor improvements.

Here's a link to some other files: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...ing-files.html

Thanks!

Thanks for the link to the new .xdf file I will use it.

I have the correct VSS buffer for the tire size and gear ration but does anyone know where i could find a VSS to thread on the a standard speedo cable? I have a autometer already on it but it has 16 pulses per reveolutions.

Before I swapped to a 4L60E I was using the stock 2,000 PPM Optical VSS behind the speedometer on my 1983 Van. That is 2 pulses per turn. If you are not running the E-Trans the code will work from a single 2,000 ppm VSS input.

This is a 1993 Vortec V6 and i was told that it was a 4 pulse per turn AC VSS but not certain if that information is correct. It is really veg in the shop manual i have but i am still searching for information on that. Thanks for your post!
