from moates has anyone experienced hiccups, lack or power, erratic idle, surging, sudden stumbling, with this extension? they have a booster circuit in the extender and supposedly it compensates for the extra distance and i suppose it amplifies the signals. i put mine on with an 18" cable and wove it in and around stuff to have it exit the passenger hush panel. I started to experience the above issues immediately and they started to worsen, this went on for 2 weeks, thinking it was my tune. today i took the stuff off and the chip is in the ecm...problems so far appeared to have disappeared. any insight on this matter would be appreciated.

Do you have an Ostrich as well, or just the chip extender?

autoprom same thing, i never emulated with the extender, it is the buffer anyhow.

i put it on( extender) and got dressed up to go out that one night, i remember clearly, and the engine stumbled, i did think anything of it, until it happen continuously every time i drove the car

i thought it was the tps, cause it wluld happen at an rpm zone 1800-2200

but the tps had a good linear sweep on volts, I thought IAC, ICM, Coil, my brain was hurting,
so i fugure i would do something that didn't cost money, and i went to buy some groceries 4 miles away the cars runs sweeeeeeeeeetttt..

I didn't use a Chip extender but I did relocate my chip socket for easy access. I have not had any problems what so ever with this. look here for pics of what I put together from hardware from Moates.

If you are having these problems with a product designed for this I would just email Moates and let him know whats happening. Craig will do anything he can to help figure out the problem and make it right. Btw, give him a few days to reply because they stay very busy.

how did you connect the zif socket to the ribbon?

The only reason I asked if you had an Ostrich, is that it will plug into the same cable. I'm looking to have an easy way to install a chip, if I need to, since I am currently running on my ostrich full time, and the ECM is now mounted up under the dash in a way that would be difficult to access if I needed to while out somewhere, so this chip extender was perfect for me.

I wanted to try and eliminate an EMU cable or EMU cable connection problem for you, if an Ostrich would plug in and show teh same symptoms or run fine.

well i adjusted my tps higher right now, someone mentioned they liked the boost, i was not afraid to change things,


i have in the past emulated with the autoprom, i suppose the ostrich is the same as far as functionality and with the autoprom( that how i was able to grab a few logs and modify the bin on the spot as you well know). so i believe there is an email to craig at moates after this post.

on the test drive not a single hiccup or otherwise, it is the chip extender, i am not going to try to diagnose if it was the cable, socket, or otherwise, my computer is on the floor again...

i did buy another extender for a buddy and i could try that one ( he has not put it on yet) but i'll wait to see if there is a prob with his on his.

BTW, I plug the Ostrich up to the relocated socket and do not have any problems.

thats' a reader header for the memcal, that does work now that you jogged my memory, this stuff is a lot like lego huh...

anyhow mine don't work well , i do have the parts i could try to mess with it later

You will need an emulation cable and not just a cable from a pc like in my first attempt. The way the pc cable is pinned is backwards on one end from what it needs to be. Other than that, it was all plug and play for me. I even have the 2timer plugged into G1 memcal adapter and the cable in the 2timer.
