Why did ECM fuse Blow?

I was changing chips using the moates G1 adapter in my 1227727 ECM, and
something caused my main 12v power to ECM fuse to blow?
This is a first in a long series of trouble free datalog, chip changing sessions.
I changed the fuse and key on shows normal SES. What would be the next
step to figuring out what caused this? Chip? Adapter loose? Check for codes?
Thank you in advance.
p.s. This may be a "Red harring",but when I checked the adapter, I was able to seat it a little bit more onto the board. Maybe it wasn't seated all the way
causing the above problem? Also the fuel pump relay felt hot (not melting) to the touch a few days ago. Another "Red harring"?
