Help reading a custom chip from TPIS
I am still very new to this DYI prom stuff and I thought that it would be pretty easy to take my chip from TPIS, read it, and make some tweeks here and there after some datalogging. Well, I am running tunerpro rt, I have the burn2 from moates. I actually have 2 chips from TPIS for my engine setup. (The first chip they sent my car would not even start as it lacked fuel injector pulse signal) I have downloaded the 6E xds and ads files. I am able to read the 1st chip from TPIS, and it seems like it worked as some of the data I have looked at it makes sense. However, I havent figured out what they did wrong to cause it not to start my vehicle yet. Anyways, after I read the first chip I took the current chip that my car has been running on for 2 years now and tried to read it with the same way I did with the first one. I was able to read the chip but the data it is giving me makes no sense (example, # of cylinders says FF, Prom Id says FFFF, etc). Am I going to have to download all of the 6E factory bins and see if any of them work in reading this chip?

Re: Help reading a custom chip from TPIS
Personally I'd start with a stock GM BIN.
As for the no-start, likely has VATs enabled.
As for the chip with the FF's, that is the erased state. You may need to read the upper half of the chip. The $6E code is 16 KB is size (128 kbit), and if a 27C256 chip is used the BIN gets put in the top half of the chip.

Re: Help reading a custom chip from TPIS
Thank you Rbob! You were correct i did not have the correct chip selected when I went to read it. I thought it was something with the vats on that first chip too but it actually looks like they might have selected the wrong chip when they burned it because I have to select a different chip in order to read that one in its entirety. I am not too concerned with that chip really. Right now i am just trying to get comfortable with the "easy" stuff like reading chips. After that, I was planning on attempting to download that 6E mask with the wb hac so I can hook up my wb to my computer. Then copy my current chip to it so i can drive the car around and start datalogging. I would even know where to start with a stock bin from scratch (at least not yet) because i have alot of modifications to my engine (383 cu in, 10.3 :1 comp, miniram intake, 58mm throttle body, 30lb injectors, 200cc heads, and the zz10 camshaft with 1.6 rockers)
