Stalling motor tuning tips?

Been playing w the IAC controls. Overall, motor behaves nicely but I do have one issue when motor is free-wheeling at low speeds. Motor will stall out
coming to a turn. With clutch disengaged, as I crank over the P/S, motor stalls in mid turn. I suppose it may have something to do w the extra load from the P/S. Altho not certain, its happening in the 15-18mph range. It may also do it crawling into the garage. If I stab the accel a bit much, disengage the clutch things go a bit lean which I suspect may be part of the stumbling issue. Anybody have any remedies that have worked for them?

Re: Stalling motor tuning tips?

Is the stall saver being hit? If so that can cause an engine to stall with this mask (along with some others). See the $8D sticky list in chapter 5, there is a short write up on what it does and how to eliminate it.

Re: Stalling motor tuning tips?

Thanks RBob. I know I went through this once before and modified the Stall Saver settings to try eliminating that. Also, I found a thread where you also suggested bumping up the timing a bit in the low rpm, low load areas of the SA table raising torque. I'm going to try this as well because it does seem to happen in slow speed turns when the clutch is disengaged. Typically, I will have my left foot down on the clutch pedal and turning the wheel. I'll check, out the sticky too and report back. I can tell you that I had this issue even w my Xfire but the stalling thing is characteristic of the LT-5, especially modded ones.

Re: Stalling motor tuning tips?

Tried those params and overall it worked. Just once or twice it seemed to stumble and did shut down. This was at very slow speeds w clutch disengaged right after having given it a bit of throttle. Just seems as if there is a quick accel movement raising rpm followed by a quick liftoff at low speeds.
In fact I'm wondering if it may have something to do w the parameter that defines at what mph does TF control end. Right now that's set at 10mph.

Re: Stalling motor tuning tips?

Very well could be the IAC TF. What does a data log show?

Re: Stalling motor tuning tips?

RBob,

Reviews the logs and also looking at my WB display, I noticed that off throttle I was getting a lean spike. I thought that perhaps what was happening at low TPS%, was that a light stab at the throttle would lean the mixture out causing a stall. So I tried bumping up the AE at small TPS delta, between 0-7%. So far, no stall. Not really a hint of one. Gotta keep driving.

Re: Stalling motor tuning tips?

So far the added AE at 0-5% TPS seems to have nearly eliminated any stalling at slow speeds. I may try a bit more. I'm also liking the throttle response. Sometimes you need to change something to realize what you have been missing. Thinking I have been living w a bit of a sag at initial tip-in.
