how do i find the ignition power source wire?

i have an 89 trans am GTA with a 5.7L TPI (wich is in the process of being converted to carb) how do i bypass this starter relay that everyone is talking about? i can find only 2 relays under the drivers side dash. one was glued/plastered/gummed to the inside of the drivers side fender (near the hood release) with some sort of black tar stuff. and one was near the fuse box. a guy told me to connect a few wires together a while back, but his discription didnt match either of the relays wire colors. my car did have an anti theft device and a chip in the key. can someone pleeeeeeeeeeeease give me detailed instructions on how to wire up my ignition? there are so many things that i need to connect to it and its a really big block in my conversion process. :hail:
