idiot lights--->gauges, 82-84 bird

I recently aquired a gauge cluster from an 84 t/a which has the full gauges instead of just the speedo and gas gauge, which i currently have. When I tried to install it, it intantly popped the "gauges" fuse as soon as I turned the key, and obvoiusly none of the gauges worked. I tried it several different times and it just kept popping the fuse. Is there more involved in this swap? Or did I just get a bad gauge cluster?

Here's what I have now:

Yes, there's more involved.

The pinouts on the connectors behind the dash gauges are not exactly the same from what I remember.

You'll need to pull the connectors out far enough from the dash behind the gauges so you can switch the pins (wires) around a bit. Therefore, you'll also need a shop manual to figure out which ones need to be switched.

I'm guessing you're popping the fuse because something is shorting out due to the wrong connections.

Also, I don't think your oil pressure and temp gauge aren't going to work because you don't have the right sensors, your dummy gauges use different ones. That would be a simple part store trip I imagine.

yeah the dummy cluster sensors are made so when they rich a certian temp or pressure they activate, it isnt a measurement like the real gauges are
