'88 Factory or Dealer Alarm?

I have an alarm/ remote door lock system in a '88 I roc. was there a factory installed alarm in '88?
Is it a possible dealer installed system with the Chevy logo on the key pad?
I need to buy a new key pad. I think that the alarm may be causing my fuel pump not to recieve a 12 volt signal from the ECM. I some times need to put 12 voltsl to the tan/white wire at the relay just to start the car.

If you are referring to something that looks like this, it was a dealer installed item and not a factory installed option.

Actually, I found the main alarm system by the Steering Colunm . The "GM security System" decal was visible. the only difference is that the alarm works from a remote keypad. Can I still purchase and program this remote unit? Is there a universal that will also work?

Hey, biggd,

Since the above posts are five years old or so, you might repost your question. BTW, welcome to TGO.

Re: '88 Factory or Dealer Alarm?

If any alarm system is over 20yrs old my opinion is replace it. No parts will be available and it would be better to install a new system. That is the route I went with my 22yr old Viper system.
