injector check

1988 2.8 . car wont start. sounds like it is firing only on one or two cylinders. i checked the fuel pressure, which is ok and plugs are getting spark. i also checked ecm for codes but get nothing. car was parked for long time. could the injectors be fouled, and if so, how do you check them to make sure they are getting a signal to open? please help

you can get a noid tester from autoparts store think its like 20 bucks or so, also ive heard of just using a stethescope or a long screwdriver with your ear to it and listen for the injector to be clicking at steady pace

Change your plugs, check your wireset and wiring (possible mouse infestation, maybe? ) and then go on from there to vacuum lines (they don't like to sit for a long time, believe me). Then replace your fuel filter (it's a given-- at $5, why not? ), buy a noid light, and resistance check your injectors by unplugging both ends of the harness and using a DMM on either set of terminals (left end and left mid, right end and right mid-don't mix these up). You should get around 4 ohms resistance at either set of terminals. Any more, and you need to check individual injectors for 12 ohms resistance.

Check your plug wires for proper resistance. There should be NO MORE THAN 10K ohms of resistance per foot of wire length, which means that if you set your DMM at 20K max, none of the wires should go over the limit. If one does, replace the set and the coil too, since that could be shorted to ground through its casing (called a track).

Check INJ 1 and INJ 2 fuses for being good or not. If one or both is bad, then you only have maybe one bank of injectors firing. Also check the coolant temp sensor and intake air temp sensor for proper resistance.

Change the oil and coolant. While you're at all this, you might think about completing the tuneup with a cap and rotor, air filter, PCV valve, and an evap can filter if you can find one.

:edit: If your injectors pass the resistance and circuit testing, then you might want to send them to cruizinperformance.com (sp?), for $11 per injector, to be cleaned.
