quick 3 prong L.E.D. switch question

i want the led to come on when the switch is on.

ive got it like this:

led prong and ground prong wired together , and a positive wire going to the pos side of the switch.

whats wrong?

the complete circuit i built works. but the led doesnt come on when i flip the switch (but the circuit works fine)

Maybe the resistance of the circut is too low? Or maybe the.. wait, you have a ground wire? I thought you were supposed to wire it

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,led --> ground
+ -->(switch) <
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,whatever the switch actually turns on

no tis 3 tabs. one for positive, one for ground, and one for the led. i cant figure out how to wire the led into the circuit.

let me find some pics hold on...


ok look at my pic.

the circuit works. when i flip the switch the fan comes on.

but the led doesnt. i dunno what to do?

Oh, ok. I think that is because there is 2 paths for the electricity to take, so it takes the one with less resistance. Sort of like you're shorting it out. Try adding a resistor to the other tab before the wires meet.

I have a lighted switch in my car. I wish I could just rip it apart and look...
