How about splcing into the wire that controls you electric cooling fan. I don't have a wiring diagram for your car, but you should get one if you plan to do this. If your car is like mine the fan is ground side switched with a relay. You could run another relay parallel to power the kicker. It would turn on when the fan turns on which happens when the a/c is on.

The clutch is also electomagentic. what would stop you from splicing into the ac clutch wire, and having that control a small relay that turns on the kicker?

My car was originally equipped with a belt fan. I managed the following conversion, so the fan idea wouldn't really work:

The clutch wire might have some merit. Any other ideas?

when you turn the AC on, the switch grounds a wire.
this does several things.
if i were you, i would make that wire kick on a small relay.. have the relay hit the throttle kicker.
the throttle kicker is just a silinoid... if its one wire, ground the body, and +12v to the wire kicks it on.
if its two wires that are the same color, it doesnt matter, one goes to ground, the other to power.
otherwise, look at the instructions.. lol.
this does several things.
- it turns on the AC compressor by locking the clutch
- it turns the fan on by grounding the relay (if you have elec fans)
- it sends a signal to the ECM that the AC is on so it idles better (if EFI)
- it hits the throttle kicker (if carbed)

How about using the LT GRN 66 wire in the following diagram to trigger a relay?
