The dimmer switch is completely separate from the turn signal switch. The turn signal/hazard switch is at the top end of the steering column, while the dimmer switch is near the lower end of the column and is actuated by a linkage from the lever.
DO NOT get a switch from Advance or Autozone! This is not hard to replace, but it's a nerve wrecker, and a muscle cramper. Pay the few extra bucks and get better - like Carquest. I replaced mine once from Autozone, and it went bad in 2 months, got another Autozone switch and it went bad in 3 weeks - 3rd try I did Carquest, and it's been good for over 1 year now.
Easiest way I found was laying on back in seat with feet up and head under dash. You'll have to adjust the position of the switch by sliding it (bolts are in slots), to get it properly aligned to work, then tighten it down - but be careful with it, one of those little screws is a bear to get at, and it strips easily as there's no nut, but just a hole (sheet metal screw type).
more likely than not your dimmer switch has just slipped down the steering a little . 20+or- years of flipping levers can do that . remove panel under steering shaft , flip turn lever , locate switch rod , follow it to switch . rod may have slipped out of sw. maybe not . once sw. is located you should be able to push on it to flip beams . loosen screws enough to slide up to remove loose play . tighten screws you should be good . has worked for me many times in the past . good luck .
Not generally to fix the headlight lo/hi beam part, unless the stalk itself is broke. To fix turn signal issues might have to, as there is a plastic cancelling cam inside the steering column that might need attention, as well as the wires themselves, depending on what the issue is.
It looks like my switch works...the problem is the lever is not hooked up to the rod...somehow. I guess I am going to drop the column and see if there is anything I can figure out. Is there any suggestions from here?
i have a healight issue myself.... no headlights at all.....
no power going to connector all other lights are working....even dash
not the bulb
my dimmer switch is not clicking anymore from high to low...could this be why? started a new forum....no headlights at all. help?

Can someone post pics of this job, i am very mechanically inclined but i need to know what the hell im looking for under my dash to fix the hi/lo beam problem
best thing i can tell you is just buy one from auto zone there about 12 bucks, they have a white connector. if you look straight at the steering wheel it would be at the 11 o'clock position ...yellow wire in and i believe brown and green coming out of connector. you will see a metal rod coming from turn signal switch to it....i had to lower my steering column to get it out....don't worry.....not hard 2 nuts...just makes it easier getting the 2 8mm or 10mm bolts out. it fixed my car.hope i helped
