Passenger side headlight wont go up or down. The motor is fine. After some troubleshooting, the trouble seems to be in the Headlight Control Module (on the firewall). There is power going in to both red power leads no the module, but theres nothing coming out of the two wires that go to the passenger side motor. If i use leads to connect the passenger motor to the DRIVERS side leads, it works fine.
I ordered a new module, and replaced it. It was fine for a few days, both lights worked. Suddenly that one is dead again. Checked the module using wire leads again, and its the same thing. One side of the module is dead.
What can cause this? I checked the amp draw on both motors while they were going up and down (one at a time, off the good side of the module, obviously), and theyre both drawing the exact same things, consistantly. (2.6 going up, 1.0 going down... thats what the meter said, not the number of amps, i forget how those units work, lol...)
I have another headlight and motor to replace it with, but i cant seem to confirm where the problem is, other than *inside the box.* So i dont want to keep ordering control modules at 40 a piece.
hi learned the hard way...there are 3 relays...im assumin u have no bare wires groundin out...theres 2 on walls of engine bay....other located near battery...if both headlights act same it is relay near battery...if they act different then its the relay on engine bay...if else check wires to fuse...good luck...

That info would help someone with an older Firebird. 1982-86 (aka three-wire headlight motors) used 3 relays as you've described. The 1987-92 (aka 2-wire motors) used one relay called the Headlight Control Module aka Headlight Door Module.
There are two blue colored fuseable links (labeled D & E) that power the RH & LH headlight doors. They connect to a red wire that is hot at all times. That is where I'd start looking. These are located in the largest wire bundle coming from the black plastic cover that runs along the chassis adjacent to the steering shaft. The largest black split accordian protector houses them. I'll e-mail you a scan showing the location from page 8A-201-16 of the 88 Firebird Service Manual (which you SHOULD buy from eBay or at www.helminc.com).
