Welcome Aboard!

Is there 12VDC at the coil with the ignition ON?

Is the distributor turning?

We had a similar issue this past weekend when starting my new 350.

We ran into an issue where we were 180deg off, so we had to turn the dist.

We had spark prior to this, but after we turned the dist. we didnt have spark... so we were like WTF...

Turns out we got a little bit of oil on the center of the rotor, so it wasnt getting a good connection.

Make sure all of the connectors on the cap and rotor are clean and give it another go.

you sure you got a good ground?

I dunno if I think its the ECM... you have an old dist. cap and rotor to give a shot? Coil possibly too.

I am not sure if its the same on a 91, but in my 86 there was a fuse near the battery that applied 12v to the ECM that was keeping my car from starting

Try disconnecting the timing connector. Part of the "NO START" flow chart. It may also be a distributor ground problem. You also need to check the coil negative terminal to see if you are getting the pulse signal. And check to see if you are getting B+ at the coil when cranking. I think the starter feeds the crank voltage.

I was talking yesterday with a buddy of mine...and he said he had the same problem....test if you have power before the coil....if you do the problem is really the spark module or the reele....or the wire that goes to it....
If the module (ecm) was bad you will not have the de flash....ups...have you tried to take the take the codes from the ecm? 12...3 times?

Ahhh another thing if you car is older (with the maf sensor) they have a reele at the driver side close to the master cilinder that can cut the spark too....

FIXED IT DUH!?

The plug from the ignition coil was mixed up with a coolant temp sensor under the plenum. I can't believe what i had done! But, the motor had to come back out, the rear thrust bearing was leaving metal in my oil pan and filter, but after 150 miles, that stroker is pretty damn fast! I highly recommend it to you thinking of a 383 conversion! Thanks for the help everyone. Sincerely, Alex

That'll do it...

Not sure how you mixed up the coil plugs as I thought they could only go there, but glad to hear you got it sorted out.

Btw, just so that there is no confusion, the Coolant Temp Sensor is on the front of the engine. What Alex probably meant was the Intake Air Temp sensor (aka Manifold Air Temp).

Re: 91 Z28, New everything, NO SPARK!

I am having the same trouble "no Spark" on a 88 305 TPI. which we did an engine replacement on. I have replaced the dist and there is power to the coil. the coil check fine in my other car. the connector to the coil has a two part connection which is hard to mess up, but half goes to the air temp sensor under the plenum. Are you saying this air temp sensor does not get connected to the coil along with the dist connection? Where does it connect? That was the only connection I could find that looked right.

Thank You!

I mixed up the intake temp sensor with distributor. Thast caused my no start spark issue after intake gasket replacement.
