Laptop Gauges

Is there any interface either made or one that could be fabricated to change electrical signals into say a parralel or USB port so I could record my speed, oil pressure, etc? This would be from after market autometer senders. I just think it would be nice for diagnosis of problems and a cool feature. I could make a program once it is into the computer, I just dont know the hardware side of it.

sounds like a cool idea. i like it! the problem being that there are 6 gauges. you gotta wire into one computer interface. if we are gonna go that far lets just redesign the ecm in the car to monitor more things and connect to the laptop usb style. that way we can eliminate prom burning and do on the fly adjustments while we are at the track with the laptop. make the laptop emulate the prom chip. also record and display events in real time so we can determine why we are getting the results that we are getting. i think it would rock if whenever i did a mod to the engine the computer could tell the difference. full computer diagnostics and engine control. from a real laptop that could be used to load up fuel economy settings, or drag race settings, or a mix of both at the push of a button. now that is nice!

If your into fabrication of electronics, check out the MegaSquirt.

You can google it, or look in the 'Aftermarket DFI' forum for some info about it. It sounds like it could solve both of your problems, but it is very custom work, and will require a lot of planning to convert to one.

That looks cool. I would except for F.I. is out of my price range.
There has to be a way to do it with a carbureator though, you can plug a scanner into a ECU and get the AFR, TPS, Oil pressure, etc. So there is a conversion being done in the ecu, now just to figure out how they did it. I think I might write mega squirt an email and see what they can come up with. Maybe the interface with out the F.I part of it.
