Battery cable trying to weld itself to terminal.

Hello. Love this site, first time I've ever had to post. 87 IROC with vette top end. 5.7L TPI. Car had no power, replaced fusible links, and replaced positive and negative battery cables. Two of the links had rubbed against the starter heat shield and grounded I believe so after they were replaced I put electric tape as some chaffing material. Rewired MSD 6A box and blaster 2 coil since little brother did some craziness with it. Got all excited and hooked the positive terminal to battery.....all good........ got the negative cable close to the battery and it sparked nicely and looked like it was trying to weld itself to the negative battery terminal. Oh yeah and the car cranks when you get the negative cable close to the battery terminal. Please help. Do believe car is possesed by el diablo. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you haven't got a +12v wire connected to the starter solenoid.

Re: Battery cable trying to weld itself to terminal.

I'll double check but there shouldn't be its only the positive battery cable, and the other 3 that were originally on there. Two wires however are on the same wire end. All three have fusible links. Thanks

Re: Battery cable trying to weld itself to terminal.

Thanks for the replies. Think I found it. There's another hot wire besides the three fusible links and batter positive that attaches to the starter solenoid right under the others and it was all ate up and probably grounding out on the engine block. Thanks.
