Installing CB Radio... Few Q's about where to run wires

Hey guys, I had a small Cobra CB lying around, it's not the big one with all of the controls on a different piece, they're all on the microphone. Anyway, I was wondering how I would run the antennae wire to the back, I don't want to drill any holes.. I was going to run it to the hatch, and put the wire between the hatch, and the seal. Would this be alright? How would I get it back there so people aren't stepping on it? Does any one else have a CB in their 3rd gen?

Re: Installing CB Radio... Few Q's about where to run wires

If it was me, I'd run the wire under the "Rocker Panel" and cover under the carpet. Just make sure it is stretched out and not in areas that your or your passenger's feet will be all the time so you don't ware out the wire as that will cause it to short out in time.

I didn't think anyone but truckers still used CB Radios

Re: Installing CB Radio... Few Q's about where to run wires

i have a CB in my 83 bird. i ran the electrical connections through a small hole i drilled in the firewall. the antenna is a magnet mount and i ran the cable under the drivers lower dash panel, through the center console, out and under the seat, and then up and under the hatch weatherstripping. i'll take some pics of how i mounted the CB and the antenna. i made it so it's easily removable b/c i don't use it everyday.

That's kinda what I'd like to do, punkdude908, except mine has a cigarette lighter 12 volt connector. Now all I need is the antenna..

So it's all good. Everything is hooked up.. So I drove around last night trying to pick up a signal, and could not. We tested it out today with a handheld, and it sends the message, but does not recieve.. I'm about to take it apart, what to do now?

Did you drive it to the truckstop to get it tuned yet? They might be able to help you out...

I ordered a SWR on eBay, we don't really have a truck stop here, it's just a gas station, really.

Just a thought, did you have the squelch turned up? That can keep you from hearing a reception, but not affect transmission. Start with the squelch all the way down, then turn it up until the background noise goes away.

You have got to be near a highway or something too. Or, drive up to the top of the highest hill in town and sometimes you can hear ppl miles and miles away.

Hey, u didn't say what kind of antenna you're using.Go for something good like a Wilson 500 magnet antenna. That can make a big different in what you hear and if other can hear you.
