I am getting 12 volts to the starter, to the alternator, and to the battery. I jumped a wire in the diagnostics port to see if there are any codes that might be causing this problem and sure enough, I counted the number of flashes and I have a code "53". My Chiltons book repair manual codes only go up to 48. Does anyone know what code 53 is and if there is any relevance as to why it won't start... does not even crank. Thanks all .

Overvoltage condition
OR
EGR system problems or EGR #1 solenoid
OR
Voltage reference error
OR
VATS problem
I'd be willing to guess that your problem is with the VATS, since IIRC all since 89 have VATS and when not working will kill the fuel pump and ignition.

Thank you for the reply, I'd be willing to bet it would be the VATS as well. Will try and check on that asap. Is that associated with the code 53 that I am getting, or is it something else ?
I bought myself a code reader years ago (before I knew of the jumper trick) and of course it came with a book with the codes. Those I listed for Code 53 was for every GM car with the same connector (or so I'm told by others in the know). Discard what you know your car doesn't have, then go from there.
No crank to me sounds like VATS with Code 53. I would also expect the Security light on the dash to be on for a VATS problem, but it might not.
