tachometer pegged can 1 fix it

This is for a 19 RS with a 3.1
I just got it home after putting exaust on for emissions for title. It goes over heat and needed a heater core. When on the road it 60mph shut off to cost in for a long cool down cost in. The tach flicked to 1150 rpms with it shut off. SO MAYBE, Someone could help and say what to check before and or while I spend this weekend putting most every screw back in the dash. Also if you would like to suggest something else to check while the dash is loose I would be greatful.
