Re: Seqential Turn Signal, Round #4

Stephen, was just wondering on what you used for shipping so i knew what to look for. Glad it is USPS so it will be in my mail box and not sitting on my step.

As for the socket, I didnt doubt that you would have said something about the socket its just that I was wanting to get a heads up on what i was looking to get before your unit shows up.

http://www.partsamerica.com/productd...pe=758&PTSet=A

Take a look at this socket. I think it is the same socket that you mentioned but the part number is different. This one is 85832 and the one you mentioned is 85867. Let me know what you think and can't wait for the unit to arrive. I can't put it in until spring but at least i have it ready to go.

Interesting....Looks like the SAME socket, yet different part #s. And the one you found is way cheaper!

I wonder if there really is a difference? Only thing I see is one has a foam gasket around the plug, one doesn't...Could the difference be in those 3 square "prongs" that line it up & lock it into place?

If you get 2 side by side & they are interchangeable, or use the one you found, lemme know. I'm always up for Editing the instructions as knowledge is learned.

When mine was built, there was no socket available. I had to buy a whole tail harness & hack it for 20 year old sockets!

Yup, looks like the stock socket, with the 3 keys etc. It shows as $7 for me here, how much does it show in your location? I thought the other sockets were originally $5. But since prices change often, I can't give you my word.

I meant to ask, what happens to the turn signals when the brake is applied, do they not flash anymore?

The designer was UBER-smart!

The turn & brakes utilize the same filament in the bulb, so he designed it so that brake overides the brake signal. In other words, if you are stopped at a stop sign, holding the brakes, then flip on a turn signal...The brake for that side only, will turn off & the turn signals start flashing!

I'll try to get a video of that Sunday, when I have a 2nd person to help video.

Re: Seqential Turn Signal, Round #4

Hey Stephen. Got my unit the other day. Won't be able to put it in until spring since my car is in storage for the winter. I was curious about the brakes as well. You say that they sequence until all the lights are on then they stay on? If thats the case, i think that will work out fine.

I also have a question about the installation. Since I have an 89 formula that I am putting the gta lights in I would just have to follow the gta instructions after doing the formula tail to gta tail mod and the under dash mod. It looks fairly simple to install. I will definitly post pics and vids once i get them done.

theimpaler68, where do you get the dual filamet sockts from? I have an 89 formula that I am putting in the gta tail lights on the car and I believe that I need to put in the extra dual filamet socket as well. If you could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

i usually get them at the junkyard. sometimes no cost.

I'll try to get a video of everything, so that everything is clear to see & understand,

And yeah...After you swap to the GTA lights, just follow the GTA instructions plus the under dash mod for Formulas. I'd say the "hardest" part, was be the under dash part. And that's only because you can't simply sit in a chair & reach.

Re: Seqential Turn Signal, Round #4

Amazing....Out of a list of 35 people that said they wanted one, less than half bought or even responded.....So, I have 10 left, ready to ship.....

I typically ship on Mondays, but when the opportunity presents itself to ship on other days, I do.

Re: Seqential Turn Signal, Round #4

yea because the tailights are not like any of the ones in the diagrams in the instructions,

park-brake-turn---------turn-brake-park

so the wiring was a little different, and i also dont have a parking light out on the outside right now, but im probably gonna get a small led bulb for the outer parking lights so they come on also, oh and my hmsl is broken, the bulb doesnt stay in the socket and thats why its not on... im gonna go get one at pick n pull when theres a break in the rain.

That is most frustrating to hear....I'd be sure to beat my electrical guy, who diagnosed the Camaro wiring.

What part of it was wrong? The under dash part? The tail light section wiring? As he owns a 91 Z28, he has no excuse....

Since the tail lights are really pretty simple to figure out without any diagram......

But the under dash car worked on another car so.....

Re: Seqential Turn Signal, Round #4

it was the tailight wiring that was different... since theres only one brake light for the rear on the camaro, you have to make the turn signal bulb a dual filament and splice the turn signal wire which is yellow for the left and green for the right tailight, once you have that done you can splice the parking light form the brake light which is a brown wire and attach it to the extra wire coming from the dual filament that was for the turn signal. also for the outermost light its only got a single filament 194 bulb so you have to choose whether you want it to flash or stay on as a parking light... but other than that it was pretty easy and worth it to.

I was talking to Stephen and a solution to the outer parking light is to install another 194 bulb in the side marker housing to only function as a turn indicator. This will give your running lights and a third turning bulb.

As for the turn signal bulb being only single filament, wouldn't you want it like that so it does not come on as a running light or a brake light to keep the camaro wiring as stock as possible? I would keep the brake lights stock, use the turn signal bulb as the 1st bulb in the sequence, the stop/tail light as the 2nd, and the running light and either running or as part of the 3rd bulb.

i already had it as a running light before i did the STS so i just kept it that way... and i think it would be harder to put another 194 bulb with the same socket than to have a bulb that i can fit in there easier, one that i can just drill a hole and push it in would be good and then just wire it up to whichever one i ned

We are hunting for a dual filament, 192-sized bulb (even if it requires a new socket) to wire into that lens, to avoid having to put in a whole new bulb.

If anyone finds one before us...LET US KNOW!

Do these Sts support reverse light/amber light deleted and painted red. So say i got the white part painted red, and the yellow part painted red. Can i hook up the sts to ultilize the white reverse lights for the turn signal to.

my question is, can it go 4 3 2 1 or will it only go 3 2 1

my question is, can it go 4 3 2 1 or will it only go 3 2 1
It only has 3 outputs. To support 4 bulbs, you'll hafta combine 2. Like....1/2 3 4 or 1 2/3 4 or 1 2 3/4. Which isn't a problem for the STS unit to handle.

Personally, I'd suggest 1/2 3 4.

I'm considering getting some red 2057 sockets & bulbs converting them to tail/bake/turns too.

Can't put more than one bulb on B or C output on the STS unit, only the first one (A).
So 1&2 - 3 - 4 would be fine. No other combination.

Re: Seqential Turn Signal, Round #4

Hey Stephen.
I am very interested in these for my '84 Camaro. Put my name on the list for one of the last 5 sets. I've read the previous post and this one. I'm sure that I can handle the wiring part, but now I'm a little worried after reading 831chevyman's post about the tail light wiring being different than the directions. Am I going to have a problem? Do you have updated directions? Thanks, Jamie

Re: Seqential Turn Signal, Round #4

After consulting with my Tech guy (who designed the STS), the instructions are correct & 831chevyman misunderstood the instructions somehow. He's also the only person who has said the instructions were wrong so........

There is no "list". Orders are filled & shipped as they are paid for.

Re: Seqential Turn Signal, Round #4

At this point....No more Paypal is accepted. They SCREWED me big time on this last STS unit.

Most likely, I will be closing my Paypal & never doing business with them ever again.

I still have the last 2 STS units sitting here, ready to ship.

Are you saying that they started charging you money WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT?!? Yeah, that sounds like GayPal, alright.
I better check my account then, don't want those a** rapists to change mine too.
