Electronic Gurus and Engeneers Inside Please: Question about wiring polarity switches
I have 2 questions. First question; its a bit complicated but I'll try to explain as clearly and simply as possible. I have a project and need some assistance in wiring a switch. The situation is that I have a window motor and a regular window switch and as we know, the switch has has 4 wires on it. One positive, one negative and the other 2 go to the motor. The switch itself decides which of the other 2 is pos or neg. What I want to do is keep the motor at a certain polarity UNTIL I flip a switch (rocker switch). For example, if I were using it on a window. I would want the window to stay down all the time, until I flipped this switch, and then it would roll up and stay up until I flipped the switch back and it would automatically roll back down. Is there a way to do this? I think I've heard of some mechanisms (door locks?) being done this way on certain cars... Maybe nitrous bottle openers work this way? I don't mind if I have to use relays and resistors or whatever is needed.
Another quick question is about how the rear defrost works on our cars, I know there is a timer, but I'm not sure if its a timer module or if its the switch itself. Can anyone tell me which one? I tried doing a search and some posts say its the switch and others say its a module... Thanks again

never mind about the first question, I had a few automatic window switches for alarm systems lying around and that will work perfectly.
Can anyone answer my second question? is there a second module/timer for the rear defrost?

Maybe something like this??

I'm sure you could find an electronics dealer or shop that would have something similar.

The rear defrost switch has the timer electronics built into the switch afaik.

Thanks for the help guys. This is mainly to keep a turbo oil pump running after the car is shut off. I think I will go for an electric timer. I was just trying to see if it was possible with "junkyards" parts...

I may think you'd may be better off using a Turbo Timer as they generally also have a temperature input so they won't shut down the oil supply (turn the car off) if the turbo is still to hot.
Again, I think you can buy these as kits or most auto stores should have something similar if that's what you are trying to achieve.

yeah, I still have more research to do in that area...of timers and such. I just want to keep the oil circulating a bit more so it doesn't build up in the turbo (its remote rear mount) and escape through the seals....and smoke on startup.
