VSS question

I have the engine from an 88 Firebird, and am installing it into an 86 Camaro. I found the interion wiring harness was damaged, so I installed the harness from an 88 Camaro. While sorting through the connectors, I find that there is a connector for a vehicle speed sensor.

My questions:
1) The speedo is cable driven, and the T5 trans has a cable for the speedo. Do I *need* a VSS?
2) Does anyone have the C100 pinout for an 88 Firebird? I have a sneaking suspicion that I will need to change some of the pins around and can't find the pinout for the engine. I have the pinout for the 86, and judging by the fact that the 89 pinout I found is identical, I dount there's any difference in the 88.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm coming down to the end of this project, and the wiring for the C100 connector is about all that's left. Most everything else is closed up and done.

Re: VSS question

If I remember right....the VSS is mounted on the back of the gauge cluster, and does require a VSS signal. The ECM requires it as well, but I remember reading something about one of them needing 2000 ppm and the other 4000 ppm. But yes, you need/have a VSS.

86 and 88 should have the same pinouts, so its plug and play.

Re: VSS question

I saw the VSS on the back of the instrument cluster. Since I have a Camaro interior harness, would that pass the VSS signal to the computer though?

As for the engine wiring harness... the engine harness and computer are from the 88 Firebird. I've got a few other connectors that don't make sense, so I'm still going to have to keep digging on them, but they're ones I can do without for now, like the power mirrors.
