Re: blower motor

If it's blowing at high speed even with the controls set to OFF, it's likely that the hi-speed relay on the blower is stuck closed, powering the blower constantly.
The relay is under the hood, on the side of the blower/evaporator housing, standard oval GM relay. If you disconnect it and the blower stops, that's your problem.

If the relay is bad, you have three options:
1) leave it unhooked but you'll lose the high speed on the blower
2) buy a new relay ($5-$10)
3) open up the current relay and clean/file down the contacts (unless the relay is burned)

Hope this helps.
Lou

Re: blower motor

its blowing at the speed the speed control is at. Say its at the off position and the speed control is at high then it blows high, if in low it blows low. also when the control is in the heater setting it blows like it would in defrost. another thing is there's a burnt metal smell coming through the vents when i accelerate from a stop. any ideas? all these problems seem to be happening at the same time. thanks a bunch

Re: blower motor

Then it's likely that the A/C control head is bad (the switch that selects the function of the HVAC). Diagram here to explain: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport...C60_manual.jpg

If the ducting selector doesn't select the right ducts, you might have a vacuum supply problem (if it always blows at the windshield) or the switch problem (if it switches between wrong ducts).

The burnt metal smell probably comes from under the hood, it's pretty normal on our old cars to get the smells from under our hood due to failed hood seal allowing air to escape the engine compartment and enter the HVAC intake under the windshield.

I found out that the smell is coming from behind the AC control panel along with smoke.

That is not good. In that case, I recommend pulling the HVAC panel out to see what is creating the smoke and smell. The last thing you want right now is your car catching on fire.
