battery disconnected engine stalls

well i had a problem with a draining battery so i disconnected the battery so i can still have a charge to see what was up but lately when the battery is not connected it stalls when the break is pressed or the gas is pushed could it be a ground, altenator (new about a year and a half old) also i figured out my trunk hatch does not automatically close like it should all of these problems happened at once its frustrating

Re: battery disconnected engine stalls

Take your alternator to autozone have them test it for you, they can go bad very quickly, or you coulda got a crappy rebuilt one. The alternator is off alternating current, so if your battery is disconnected, and you do these items to draw power, it can stall your motor. When the alternator is between cycles, it will take power from the battery as needed.

If your hatch is not closing that could be your power loss. If you shut it and it dont click its not shutting all the way and will keep trying to close it. If the gears inside are worn badly it will do the same thing. This will kill ur battery in about 4-6 hours.

BATTEN DOWN THE BATTERY

The alternator can keep your car running however it was not designed to do that.

The output is not filtered.

Your car requires the battery to act as a capacitor to keep a flat 14 volts or so to power the car.

Re: battery disconnected engine stalls

Your battery is needed in order to keep your car running. There is a diode in the alternator that converts the current from AC to DC. The battery also helps to smooth out the DC current. I've seen cars with batteries that were so bad that the car would just die out. Replaced the battery, and the car was fine.
