Electric- wiring a car alarm- help please!

Any idea how hard it is to wire an alarm system in? with keyless entry, alarm... maybe trunk or start.

would I be able to do it myself? or is it just easiest to have somebody else do it?

Thanks

... know of any less expensive models but are still decent-good?

It's not exactly hard, but if you don't know the color codes of the cars wiring you'll have a miserable time. I just extracted a 20 year old K-9 from my car, it had 3 relays and five or six connections to the factory wiring not counting power and ground leads. Are you good with wires? Do you have a color coded diagram of the car? Stay away from YELLOW wiring if you have an airbag car.

BTW: Remote start with VATS will be a challenge.

http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/ is a good site to use, click on vehicle wiring diagrams, they are usually pretty accurate, probe the wires your using to be sure.

I'm not too concerned with the remote start system really. It has an old alpine security system so I don't know if that'd help. It is airbag. 92 RS 305.

I'm not spectacular with wiring... but not terrible.

Don't think I have a diagram of the car but I think I have a Chilton's manual somewhere.

You're not going to have fun doing this. Just keep the old stuff in place as a guide for now, especially the starter disable relay, as it might help you to find out where the new stuff gets hooked up. It's not hard to do, but it's really time consuming, depending on where you want to stuff the alarm module and the relays. Your new system may require extra relays for the trunk pop and door locks, BTW, just as a heads-up.

BTW, sometimes the alarm brain has a printed label or molded-in wiring hookup directory (that's the best I can describe it, it's similar to the label on most modern stereo headunits as to connections) on one side.

:edit: Just noticed you're going to attempt a remote start with VATS. To do this, you're going to need an expensive bypass module as well as the proper resistors so your ECM has the fuel control signal to run.
